Alnona's Journal, 20 March 2019

Can I vent for a moment? I sat back today in awe of my lack of control this week. Then I tried to deduce why. One of my twin granddaughters had the second of two surgeries(she's only 3mnths and 2mnths preemie), my brother's ALS has taken his voice, legs and arms, Mom's health, physical and mental are failing, we just went through the anniversary of her husband's fall and subsequent broken neck(he'll have died a year ago in May). After all this went through my brain, I get a call from Hubby, his job may be in danger. Do you ever feel like a dumping ground. It's truly a wonder that I'm not back to 360+ lbs. Okay, it's off my chest....on the way to the gym now. Thanks for letting me have a pity party. Good night my friends.🙋

Hey lady we’re here for you. That’s a lot to go through. Seems as though it never stops at times. But you’re strong. Instead of hitting the bar or binging you’re at the gym. It’s times like these that define us. We can make two choices; stay the course or fall apart. That wasn’t a vent that was a hey I’m working this out cuz I got a lot of crap going on post. Always here for you ❤️

Mercy, that is a lot to dump on anyone - hoping there's strength enough to endure.

Like everyone else in the world I have had a lifetime of dealing with horrific and sad life events, and medical events both personally and in the lives of those I love and care about. I was sitting on a plane many years ago on my way to deal with yet another crisis. During the flight safety speech Iheard something that literally has guided my response to life’s events. The stewardess was demonstrating the oxygen mask and how to use it. She said—-PUT THE OXYGEN ON YOURSELF FIRST. IF YOU ARE INCOMPASSITATED YOU CANT HELP ANYONE ELSE.. i made a decision right there and then that I would never let these types of things be an excuse to abuse my mind and body with either food, alcohol or behavior. My obligation was to me — to take the best possible care of myself so that I too would not fall victim to the tragedies in the lives of others.

There is so much that we have no control over. I've also been hit with family having medical issues that I can't do anything about so I end up overwhelmed by helplessness and uselessness while trying to comfort and reassure them. That is when I really need to focus on the few things I actually do have control over. More than once I've found myself sobbing while on the treadmill.

That certainly is a heavy load, sorry you have so much going on. ALS can be so awful, I had a friend who had it. All your issues are pretty major issues! Hope your load lightens soon, and will pray for your family. If you can get through all this, you can do anything.

I can honestly say that my FS family has been my saving grace. I hope anyone reading this and is questioning joining this site, sees the love and support you all give me. I know many more are going through much more and my heart is with them. And it's never too late for a hug. Thank you all from the bottom of my soul.🙋😘
