Metabolism what I know about it is that it adapts. If a person is consuming 1000 calories a day for a long time, body thinks it’s starving so the metabolism slows down so the body won’t suffer and will keep working properly

ageing is different as your hormones and a ton of other internal things too technical for me to remember the list of those changes. so yes as you age you are going to slow down in the metabolism department, your cells will not replace as well and it goes on. You can continue exercise and reduce the effect, but you can not beat father time.

That’s why u have people that have been dieting for their entire life only on 1000 calories a day
16 Jul 18 by member: rosio19
People that have messed too much with a severe caloric deficit (long periods of time) have slowed down their metabolism
16 Jul 18 by member: rosio19
And now every time they try to eat more they gain weight rapidly

That’s why, everything in moderation...this includes a caloric deficit 😏👌🏼🙌🏼💪🏼

What I have seen is that these are the people that keep claiming a caloric deficit diet does not work

Again this happens only when for a long period of time u been (body thinks) starving, what’s a long period of time???? Everyone is different it depends on ur body

Muscles do use up calories during rest, for sure. Age it affects it. The rest of the 'starvation mode' metabolism rhetoric I will take with a grain of salt until I see actual lab results. The heavier your are, the more you work to move around so the faster the weight loss will be at a given calorie level. As you lose weight, the easier it is to move around so your weight loss will slow down at the same given calorie level. I see this as a logical result of losing weight, not some 'omg my metabolism is breaking' issue.

adrenal issues come from stress and that can jack up your body. but it does not have to be caused my less calories, it can be a ton of different influences. Stresses of life or environmental issues, illness's list goes on. but that is off point. LZenn I like the way you think. Too many studies with too many variables for anything to be set in stone.

Great discussion. Here is a pretty good site that explains metabolism. Too bad I can’t do a live link. Www.VOX.com. The article is called: MOST OF US MISUNDERSTAND METABOLISM: 9 FACTS TO CLEAR THAT UP. HOPE you read it. I took a screen print of the heading and will put it up on my journal.

Good article Kenna, yes crash diets/severe caloric deficit slows down ones metabolism ✔️
