The weight and the number of reps doesn't necessarily determine the amount of muscle growth...

Lift what you can as much as you can!

I need to add 5 lbs, and stop babying my body

Yep, I see guys with pencil arms swinging the 40-pound dumbbells for biceps while I grab the 20's. It's about the quality of the workout and how hard you're pushing the muscle. Bicep curls shouldn't be full-body movements.

I don’t love lifting. I don’t like exercising but my body responds well to it. Exercising is the better choice

I do- thankfully. I don't do well when I have to force myself to do something.

Good to know! Great post once again.

It's good to know that you don't HAVE to go heavy but if strength is a goal you do. For me, strength is nice but it's a bonus so I go heavier some days, and lighter on others.

So you could do bicep curls with 8 pound dumbbells and do them twenty five times (if that's to failure) or use 15s and do them 12 times to failure...why not go heavier instead of being at the gym all day? What am I missing here? I always lift heavy. I'm not understanding why I'd go light.?

Why you'd go light...reset a metabolic adaptation to your workout, de-stress your CNS, make breaks mandatory so your body adjusts and prepares for the next series of stressors. IDK, these seem like applicable reasons. Oh, work through oxidative stress and improving VO2 max depending on your goals. Military still uses a taper to accomplish the best outcome for newbies--or boots. Hey, just spitballing here. Also, folks entering comps or setting a new world record would do this...No degree in sigh - inn's, the maths, so if I need this then just ignore my comments.

Let's be honest, the only reason we do it is for the pump!

Interesting Terrapin. Maybe I'll give it a try...maybe. 😉

I tracked down my buddies niece, she has now benched 225 during a workout. She weighs a 130-135. The struggle is real. Another record is coming for her...I can see it. Yes for the Pump!

That's a great lift!

Holy cow! 225! My goal is my body weight lol. (So 125 goal right now) Has she been lifting for years? I think hubby does 225-275 with me cause he’s afraid I won’t be able to help if he needs it but does 325 with his buddy. So 225 for a girl seems huge to me! Good for her!
