My 2 cents...good Wednesday morning...raining here all day..

I got to thinking why I’m here at fs this morning..I came to fs years ago because I was no longer happy with my body image..over the years of eating what was suppose to be good for me...my body just didn’t burn it the way it once had...getting older...less movement...enjoying the food I ate...one day I decided it was time to make a change...the way I was going in life..just wasn’t working for me..I was buying pants on line cause they didn’t carry my size at the local walmart...years later...and now that I’m smaller...they carry them...

I came to fs...to change me...over the years I have educated myself on food..like never before..in the early 1920s. Diabetes wasn’t as common...of course food wasn’t modified back then..it was real food...no fast food...sometimes things are changed for the wrong reasons in the end of itt all...modified food...but is it all healthier for everyone...

Over the years I’ve learned my body was insulin resistance...to much sugar...to much starch...all the good food one gets hooked on over the years...my body and mind has to be retrained after 60 years...that if I want to stay healthy...and not be one of those people sitting at the doctors office...then for me...creating a healthier eating habit..is why I use fs...to track my eating habits...so I can improve when I need to....

Sure it would be great to go out and have a cookie dough blizzard...but when I log that into fs...and see in black and white the numbers...namely the sugar content...my body would be in insulin overload...and for the next week..I would be trying every trick I could think of to get the weight off...it’s just the way my body works ...

So...today’s plan is to do a longer fast..yesterday was spent prepping for the week...I did get 24 hour fast in before I ate...but as always wanted to go longer...so...it’s almost 8 am...3 more hours I hit my 24 hour mark...see where it goes after that..I’m finding doing longer 24 hour fasts are getting easier to get thru...

Welp...have a great day...just my thoughts for the day...

Good morning, Wannabe Mike! I say, if the mood hits you ... go longer! Can't hurt anything and it can help a lot! I haven't been able to do this yet. One day.

I agree with you. Your reminder is helping me. I can't eat that movie popcorn. it will take me a week to get back down. Thanks. Being diabetic.. I understand the things that hurt, but sometimes I eat them anyway.

Lately, I've had trouble doing a 24. I support you! I'd like to be like that guy from 1965 who fasted for just over a year. I don't need to go that long, but five days would be nice.

I agree with the modified food not being good for us. Also, many of us don't process food the same way as we age. I've been on my own journey of age vs weight. You have insulin reactions; I have arthritic reactions, most of which can be controlled with food. No wheat, no sugar, and I feel better. It's so simple! Doing it can be hard, though, because we have been conditioned to eat certain things. Retrain the brain!

Nice post Mike. I came to FS for medical reasons...reversing a short track to type 2 diabetes (at the "young age" of 55) due to my poor eating habits overwhelming my good exercise and activities. All good now, but I am sure not taking good health for granted...still a work in progress. By the way, thanks again so much for motivating me last fall to by that road bike...I'm hooked 🚴‍♂️🚵‍♂️

Also, Strava was a great suggestion too...keeps me motivated to beat my own (or others) past efforts, a little self competition is good!

Gm mom...longer fasting is like everything..for me I do better..if after I eat breakfast day before..then start fast...towards the 12*14 hour you get 8 hours sleep if your lucky..makes 24 easy...

SoCalPam...like you I to react with arthritis...if neighbor brings food over...most know my eating plan...but some sugar acts different on me...the more I stay off of it..the better my body smiles...

Steven...I’m so happy that your enjoying that new set of wheels...can’t wait to see the excitement you have when your setting your bike up on a trainer and zwifting...I just don’t miss getting layered up..heading out in 20 degree weather or colder..to do a morning ride...yes I now have that choice...but being inside with 2 fans on me as I sweat away...just makes me smile...

When I think back over the years I now realize how hard I worked to abuse my body with all those carbs and sugar, both intenionally and unintentionally because the "food" companies lied to us just for bigger profits. So many of us have paid fir it, not only at the cash register but with our health. Now we are trying to reverse the damages as we have gotten older and hopefully wiser.

Steven...I’m sure you have made a wise choice....the only draw back to my kinetics smart trainer...it’s not consistent resistance...each time you tighten up the know on back tire..you are hoping it’s rhe same as the last time...by feel..
