After years of abusing my body with processed foods and junk, I am now hypoglycemic. I also have polycystic ovarian syndrome which I have had since puberty. They symtoms of this increase as my weight increases. Last year I started Metformin but made no dietary changes except for eating breakfast (if you can call a blueberry muffins from Tim Hortons breakfast) and I lost about 20 pounds. Last week I met with a dietician who recommended the GI diet for me to help me shed the pounds and get the blood sugar under control. That in turn should help control the symptoms of PCOS.

So here I am. I bought the GI book and have been filling my head with ideas on how I am going to take this on. I have been terrible my entire life with meal planning which is going to be so important to making this work. I think that planning meals will be my biggest challenge. In the last year I think I might have brought my lunch to work 3 times. It will be very difficult to start these new habits.

I hope this forum will help to keep me focused on the little gradual changes that I need to make. It is time to do this. My body won't wait any longer.

Hello, I am new to fs myself. I have not heard of the GI diet, I am using the Weight Watchers diet plan. I believe I have some of the symptoms of PCOS and so does my Dr which is directly related to my current increasing weight. I have got to lose the weight so I can get back on track and be my healthy self.

Hi Ropincowgirl....I have thought about the weight watchers diet too. I know lots of people who have had much success with that diet. Funny that the symptoms of PCOS increase as weight increases. Maybe if I had known that 50 lbs ago I wouldn't be in this mess now. Oh well...hindsight is always 20/20 right. I just have to make sure that I stop this now before it gets any worse. Good luck with your diet and stay in touch and let me know how things work out for you!
