The recent weight gain made me stop exercise, due to being afraid of gain in muscle.

Sounds weird when I write it down here, but it is a reality to me.

Yesterday I ordered a Tanita scale that should in theory give me a clue of my fat and muscle weight trends.

Knowing that the new scale is on it's way, I did step on the bicycle again today. Just came back, and just...wow. Better than coffee, as a feel good fix.

0_o Uhhh. Muscle is what you want to gain, and maintain even especially when in a deficit. Plus, even though it’s a small amount, The more muscle you have the more calories can be burned from having muscle. If you’re gaining an average of .2-.5lbs a week, that’s muscle. Anything more then that, may be some body fat. Focus on your average weekly gains/loss. But don’t stop working out, you risk the loss of muscle for one and for two, it’ll be harder to reach your goal without exercise. So don’t be “afraid” of something good & you’ll be ok.

Never heard of such a thing..You want muscle growth to counter fat..Your Tanita Machine will separate that for you in the read out. For realistic results set the machine on Standard Setting.

It is not that easy to gain enough muscle to make a difference in your weight. Former body builder here and it takes a lot of focused, intense work to actually gain muscle-at least, enough muscle to impede your 'weight loss'. And it's nearly impossible if your exercise is cardio (in spite of what ads of exercise machines may tell you! If you are doing aerobic exercise, you are not working muscles against enough resistance to gain muscle!). Exercise. It's good for you, both cardio and muscle work.

This morning I'm in the dark. Weight gain after exercise, undereating and fasting 20 hours. Had weight loss on the two recent days without exercise. Weird. Now pin a hope on that fat, muscle and water scale that will soon arrive.
