My workout complete; 11 roses pruned! The hyacinth flowers grow among some rose canes, which make my naked bushes look a little nicer! A couple bushes have such horrbly mean thornes! I have to be so cautious even with thick, leather gloves for protection. One bush that had grown last season to 1o ft tall is wacked down to a managable 3/4ish ft yet again. These are "before" photos that will contrast with the lovely bushes they will become with beautiful flowers. Not all transformations take years. May we all have a wonderful upcoming season of personal growth!

My kind of exercise. If it ever really warms up, I need to get some landscape work done as well. Nice Work!

I have roses 🌹 too and when it gets aggressively pruned. I always get payback from them, getting impaled by these scary thorns. After the pruning I say to my self LOVE HURTS.

Thanks, smithe! Erquiaga, arent they evil? 😁 That one is my easiest, most healthy bush! It gives a huge bounty of yellow flowers! Tim, I remember you saying that. 😁 And I have a perfect bush for you... Long stem, beautiful red on red striped... And nary a nasty thorn!

Thanks, SLYONE! I have a ton of work still I need to be getting done outside. PinayRN, I'm pretty strict with myself... forcing myself to prune pretty harshly. I have a couple I'm allowing to get taller. I only pruned back about half their hight this time, but everybody else gets whacked. I suffer cutting back wonderful, healthy canes, but it is best for sure! Do post some pictures of your blooms when they come!!

I love seeing pictures of your gardening work and your flowers, Melissa. As a big city resident, in an apartment that doesn't have a single balcony, and with zero plant care skills, I appreciate this window into your garden.

Beautiful! I can’t wait to get back to my garden. Another couple weeks and the snow/frost will be gone 🤞I wasn’t able to do a fall cleanup last year because of my injury. I’m ready to get back out there now! Gardening is good for the soul and the body.

Dear Eva, I wish you had a little space to grow things. Maybe someday! Thank you for your kinds words, everybody! For the first time, this year I felt zero motivation to work with my bushes.... I was dreading it. I got started and now I feel so much better and can't stop looking at them and wondering what gifts they will give me in the months ahead.

Spring will come for you guys waiting! Thank you for enjoying my flowers with me. They do smell heavenly, and I feel so blessed they haves such a cool color and they come back healthy year after year. I have a long stretch of working every day now for a while... I won't have time to enjoy much more time in my yard. I'm glad I got some work done!

Thanks for the reminder. As soon as the 6" of snow melts, I'll get out to pick up sticks and do some dormant pruning. I only have a few roses, but they are rewarding. I just planted a native Rosa Virginiana rose last fall in my natives garden, so I hope it weathered the winter okay. It will have humble simple pink blooms.

I was inspired when I saw the way you trimmed your roses last year. I have already started trimming here but need to finish. You just inspired me again... Thanks!!!

Good idea to mix your hyacinth bulbs among the roses 🌹 I should plant more hyacinth. The few I have are in an area not as visible as my daffodils. I thought about planting more Crocus, but their blooms are more short lived. I need to be ruthless pruning my roses. I don't have as many as you, but they would probably do better.

It’s funny how the thorniest bushes seem to put out the prettiest flowers!
