I haven't always struggled with my weight. As a child I was extremely fit, spending most my days running, biking, and swimming. Once I hit those teenage years though, I gained weight because I was relatively sedentary and did not moderate what sorts of food I ate. Never would I say I overate, however.
In college, the dorm food was so horrificly bad that I ate very little (compared to when I was a teen) and fairly healthier. I also regularly exercised. It was during those years and early in my marriage that I looked and felt my best as an adult.
As my marriage progressed I became 1) settled in; and 2) unhappy with my life in general. Weight-wise these were the dark years. I put on more weight than I ever had in my life. I went to a pant size I had never worn before and it was DEPRESSING. Worse, I hovered at that size for several years.
Things in my life have changed dramatically recently and my outlook is brighter. On my own I started being more mindful of what I was eating and tried to focus on eating more fresh veggies and fruits as well as chicken and fish. I try to avoid fatty foods, salty snacks, sweets, and the like. That isn't to say I never allow pizza, but I eat it significantly less frequently than I once did.
