Atkins..i'm trying really trying, but if i have to eat another egg or piece of meat i'm going to bar
back to the topic.. i've stuck it out and am feeling much better in the past couple of days. i really haven't had to add much of anything that isn't allowed in the first two weeks, either. i've been drinking more water and also found some fish that i enjoy eating to replace some of the higher fat proteins. i've also replaced some of the heavier salad dressing (blue cheese) with an olive oil/vinegar blend. my sweet cravings are definitely declining, but when i have one, i find that a container of sugar-free jello hits the spot. i have eaten a handful of nuts as a snack even though they aren't recommended yet. they have loads of good MUFAs so i don't see the negative really.

anyway..bottom line is i'm feeling more energetic and sleeping better that past two days. it's something Smile i'm adjusting things wisely as i go.

well..one of the most vocal is a meathead, weightlifter type that i'm almost positive has to be messing with some steroids...so yeah- i need to just tune him out. i will tune in to MY body and be fine. i'm just discouraged at times because i've gotten so behind in the past few years. life has been difficult on top of nursing school...and depression poured the weight on me instead of not eating like many do. it was more the inactivity.. i've discovered Zumba and hula-hooping. those coupled with hiking in the woods should get me back in shape!

You'll make a great nurse pre-judging people.

is that sarcasm? i happen to be good friends with the classmate i'm talking about, who refers to himself this way. i know him and his habits so i'm not "pre-judging"..i'm making an informed opinion statement.

i happen to be very non-judgemental which you wouldn't know. sounds sort of judgemental on your part?

not sure why you felt the need to partake of the conversation in this fashion or what your intention was with your statement, but i hope you achieved your goal. Wink

i'm mixed on the good vs. bad nature that everyone argues with Atkins. on one hand, i've seen my father practice Atkins for almost a year, losing 40-50lbs., being taken off his Lipitor and hypertensive meds, and having an overall healthier body/energy. sure looks like the science works in that regard. on the other hand, i'm a student RN and it flies in the face of the diet choices we teach to patients. i've also about had it with my fellow classmates and their wagging fingers..lol. i've actually decided to do what some have suggested with starting at a higher carb allowance and dealing with slower weight loss. i don't mind it coming off slower, but of course quicker is always more alluring. i really think my true eating pattern most closely resembles a mediterranean diet. i love vegetables, olives, nuts, fruits, and small amounts of high quality meats..especially if it's grilled/broiled. i'm not a huge fan of fish, though. shellfish i love, but i think the only time i really enjoy fish is if i'm lucky enough to be in a coastal area and it's fresh. Kentucky doesn't have much fresh fish besides catfish (blech). Smile

at any rate, i think i've made the best first step and that's with taking control of my health and being more conscious of what i'm putting into my body. my health is the most important goal at this moment. thanks again for all the comments..really enjoying this site. (and thanks for bearing with my lazy, e.e. cummings style typing..lol)
