Senior from Minnesota, married, 2 children, 5 granddaughters, one great granddaughter and one great grandson. For the most part I have lived in MN for my entire life, with the exception of about a year in California when I was very young.

I worked as a support staff person in an elementary school for close to 34 years.

I am a breast cancer survivor and developed asthma after my cancer treatment. I also developed gout, which my doctor said came on for a number of reasons, my eating, my obesity and my blood pressure pills.

I have been dealing with unhealthy weight for many years. I have had success with the old Weight Watchers program and also here (FS) using a Mediterranean approach to my eating. I am returning again to give it another try.

consolidate nutritional info?
You should see a My Cookbook on your FS start page. Click on it. There should be a button that says "submit a recipe" (I think the words are in blue). This tool allows you to calculate your recipe using ingredients or similar ones to calculate your recipe. I have used it a few times to calculate a few of my recipes. I don't always find the exact ingredients, but close enough to give me a good count. Hope this is helpful.

How Often Do you weigh yourself?
@sisigst, Be patient with yourself on this journey. This is not easy, so don't give up because the numbers are not going down as fast you want or think. Look for other indicators to celebrate like looser fitting clothes, more energy, healthier eating rather than just measuring your success by a scale number. Best wishes to you on your healthy journey.

How Often Do you weigh yourself?
For the most part I weigh, once a week. I use to do the scale dance and found like others have said here that it gets discouraging, even knowing that your weight will change throughout the day. I use the same scale, placed in the same place in the morning after being up for awhile, once done I slide that scale out of the way until the following week. BTW: I did have a senior moment this week and weighed yesterday instead of today. Guess I was thinking yesterday was Thursday. It is all good though, as I will continue with my Thursday morning WI next week.

confused!!
All the replies posted here are all good. One of the reasons I like this site is I find it one of the easiest to journal my food to count calories, protein, fat and carbs. I also like to read other members post and have used many of their ideas and tips regardless of what diet plan they are following. It helps motivate me to keep on going on my plan, even on my not so good days. All of these thoughts of mine have kept me on track to lose. I also want to add to be patience with yourself. Life happens in all of our busy lives, whether daily live things, like work, kids or happy or sad events. I am still learning how to move on when I have those set backs during those times. Sometimes I am able to do it right away, other times a little longer.

Diet Buddy
Add me to those that have been following a restrictive diet. I have been dealing with weight issues for a better part of my life, but like many, had unhealthy habits that finally caught up with me, including losing excess weight then going back to those old habits and gaining more.

I was diagnosed with gout last summer. A rude awakening for me. I was told to lose weight and given a advice on what to eat. Anyway, when in for blood test and told the doctor what that I was following the print out he gave me but, also what I had read up on the internet. He recommended I take a Mediterranean approach, but be conscience of meat portions, stay clear of of shell fish, restrict my portions of red meats and avoid gravy/sauced dishes, processed foods, as well as sugar. Anyway, I started this eating plan in September and have lost close to 30. I didn't start back with FS until December and used my starting weight then. So my numbers don't include weight dropped in Sept./Oct./Nov. Right now I am waiting on getting out for exercise, which I need to add to my day. As soon as the weather breaks, my plan is to get back to water exercise, as well as resistance workouts at the Y. BTW: My goal is to not add gout medicine to my daily routine, so far I have not had a return and feel if I can keep it gone through my eating, then that is the way I want to go.

I do like reading about everyone's journeys in getting themselves healthy here. All done different and yet with the same goal to get themselves healthy. It helps me, as I know I am not alone and would love to be your buddy.
