My name is Kathy and I'm a 47yr old mom of 2 wonderful boys. After completing cancer treatment earlier this year, I had gained over 25 lbs! This was in addition to the 25-30 lbs I already wanted to lose. I'd had some success dieting in the past but the weight would always return (and then some) because I couldn't keep up the lifestyle. After doing a lot of research, I decided to try Atkins and have not looked back. The weight is slowly coming off but more importantly, this is a plan that is healthy and satisfying. It's a way of life, not a diet.

Induction weight loss - what to expect?
The New Diet Revolution was written by Dr. Atkins in 2002 and contains a lot of information on why this WOE (way of eating) works. The new book is "The New Atkins for a New You" and includes an much healthier approach which allows more veggies than ever. The website also follows the new book guidelines. If you log onto atkins.com, you will find a section titled "How to Do Induction Right" along with an Acceptable Foods list and free carb counter. This is a very different way of eating and it's important to understand the "rules" before getting started. Best of luck to you!!

Induction weight loss - what to expect?
For those getting ready to start Atkins, I urge you to get your information from atkins.com (or the new book "The New Atkins for a New You"Wink. The site is free and has a very helpful, interactive forum with very experienced Atkineers to help you on your journey. Remember, this is NOT a low fat diet but rather a high fat, moderate protein, low carb way of eating. The minimum calorie intake for women is 1500-1800 per day. The great thing about fatsecret is you can set your preferences to track your net carbs. Net carbs is determined by subtracting grams of fiber from total grams of carbs. Best of luck to you!
