My name is Becky and I live in Maryland. I am 23 years old and I teach English at a local high school. I am engaged to my best friend and we have been together since I was 16- back when I was thin. We have both lost track of our weights over the 7 year span of our relationship and have settled for that image because we are content with each other. However, I am up in front of judgemental teenagers everyday and I plan to get married this December. My goal is simply to feel better about myself. I've never had major hang ups over my weight, but I'm tired of not doing things because of it. I want to go shopping for a wedding dress this summer and have to go back for alterations a few times before Dec because it is too large! :) I'm trying to look great on my wedding day, but also change my life for the better. I like being active and I enjoy cooking and eating healthy, so as long as I can stay focused this shouldn't be too tough. I know it won't happen quickly, but I am thrilled that in my first week I lost 3 pounds. If I can have little, consecutive victories then in a few months I'll be lighter and healthier.
Since I turned this into a rant, I guess I'll end with a few things you should know about me:
I love football (Go Redskins!), my yellow lab Ginger is the greatest, sweetest dog in the whole world, my new favorite thing is ZUMBA, I love to travel, and while I'll try to rein it in, I have a terrible, loud potty mouth. :) I look forward to getting to know some of you and exchanging stories and encouragement. any other teachers dieting?
Hello FatSecret World,
I'm just wondering- are there any other teachers out there who are trying to balance diet and exercise, which is definitely a time consuming endeavor, with grading papers and planning? I am finding that my decision everyday is between working out and spending a lot of time prepping healthy foods OR getting my work done for school (grading, planning, creating worksheets, etc...). If there are any others of us out there, make me your buddy and let's share some tips and war stories!
