I'm 68 yrs old I'm 85 lbs overweight. I have no real friends and my relatives don't really visit either but I do interact via phone & texts.I am happily retired! I was hoping to travel but my health is kinda of delaying that dream. My first time on Atkins I easily lost 68 lbs and felt great. Now I'm struggling to stay on program. However latest health issue is Hiatal hernia with ulcers. This requires to stay on a GERD type eating plan.

How often do you weigh in?
I weigh myself daily and always right after I get out of bed with nothing on. That's your true weight. My doctor also recommended daily weighing as he says it is found that if you see a gain you can adjust your eating right away rather than waiting a week to do it. It is important to weigh yourself at same time though and not after you have eaten or exercised cause that will give you a variance. But whatever works because it's a personal thing.

The Dangers of Low Carb- Opinions?
Denisetra,
Excellent argument and responses to K8YK and very helpful. Final comment let's face it the diet/weight loss industry is a trillion dollar industry and they don't care who gets hurt in the process. It's mostly about making the most money. Same goes with the exercise industry and drug industry.

The Dangers of Low Carb- Opinions?
OMG - This Gregg guy is insane and obviously has never read the Atkins Book. He has so many incorrect facts on Low Carb weight loss. Atkins is not a low carb/high protein diet and it most definetely uses the Glycemic Index and I'm sorry but to my knowledge vegetables contain fiber. And if he thinks this type of dieting is a new fad where the hell has he been for the last 30 years ! I happen to own the original Atkins Book and that's like 25 yrs old ! There was a craze about 5 yrs ago with a whole bunch of books/articles and diets for low carbing and all grocery stores had all sorts of low carb foods. Some of them were really bad and gave you diareah but that faded out somewhat. Even then most people where only utilizing the Induction Phase and had no clue about the rest of the phases. Newspapers were filled with articles shooting down this type of eating but the facts were always incorrect and again it was obvious they had not read the book in its entirety.

New Life for me
Hello to all. New to website. Haven't viewed everything yet. I'm 54 and weighed 263 lbs on January 4th. Just restarted Atkins after 5 yrs.I previously had lost 68 lbs first time. I've lost 11 lbs this first month. I was expecting to lose more at first but I'll take any loss I can get! I have at least 100 lbs to lose so I'll probably join the 100 club soon.I wanted to find out calories even though you don't have to count them on Atkins. I also want to make sure that I'm eating the correct number of Net Carbs for each phase instead of guesstimating. I expect to be on Induction Phase for quite some time. This is the first time I've tried journaling and joining others on a website. I'm looking to find support as I do not have any supportive people around me. I feel I'm doing well since I don't have any cravings for sweets and I'm not hungry between meals. I usually need a snack in the afternoon. I've felt better than I have in quite some time. My Blood Pressure is very high something I never worried about before and I hate taking the medication so I'm hoping this is the answer. Looking to share my journey with you all.
