I'm recovering from breast cancer for which I had a lumpectomy done in Feb. 2011. I am on meds for hormone blocking so this has added a few pounds of which I am determined to work off now that my energy levels are picking up again. Radiation treatments (25) finished in early August 2011 and my energy levels really suffered from that. It is predicted that I should be feeling more like my old self again by January 2012.
40 years ago I was diagnosed with diabetes as well and have always maintained control through watching what I eat, which I still do. Losing this excess weight will improve that situation for sure.
I also have inherited high cholesterol but weight loss should also improve that.
I'm happy to have been told of this site, from a friend of mine, and hope to become greatly encouraged to reach my goal in a year or so.

How to combat boredom munching!
What great responses, everyone! Awesome! I do like the flavored ice cube trick, that sounds mighty fine.

I haven't had an "eat when bored" issue, just thoughts, I don't give in to eating when I shouldn't be, but I love that this topic has gotten people to share their ideas.

Thanks.........a kazillion! Smile

Does weighing daily help or hurt?
Before I joined the site I made a promise to myself that I would weigh myself once a week. I don't expect much loss for the first couple of weeks, I'm also exercising more and muscle will weigh more than fat, so my weight won't seem to decrease at first. However, I personally feel that weighing in once a week gives me a higher chance of seeing a happy loss in the weight. It's like giving myself a present every Monday morning. Smile I expect that I'll see a happy decrease in pounds after about two weeks of calorie counting.

How to combat boredom munching!
When I'm really bored I find I think about eating. Generally I steer clear especially when my calorie count is done for the day or will be done for the day with pending meals ahead (planned ones).

What I'm asking is how do you push yourself away from eating just because you're bored?

Also.....which snacks do you find are okay to have?

I enjoy popcorn from time to time and find that I lose the boredom hunger fairly quickly by simply nibbling on a few pieces of popcorn, but taking my time eating it. One piece at a time, rather than by the mouthful.
