08 November 2010
Today begins a new week. It's a rough time of year for everyone, including me. I have a few extra things besides Thanksgiving to deal with. My mother-in-law and my son were both born in November, thus there will be at least one extra dinner to deal with. Last night we ate at my son's bistro and he pretty much controlled the menu and wine. It was delicious, but I must say it wasn't very low calorie. We had lamb riblets, catfish nuggets with tarter sauce. I ate half of one with the deep-fried crust and one more taking off all the crust and no sauce. For the main course I had Fire-Roasted Diver-harvested Scallops with Baby Bok Choy, Japanese Eggplant, Wasabi Mashed Potatoes and Ginger-White Soy Glaze. Thankfully the serving is what he calls a small plate, so mashed potatoes were probably 1/2 to 3/4 of a cup only. I had 3 bites of two desserts they brought to the table to share, and probably 3 or 4 glasses of wine. We were eating for almost 3 hours! This week should be fairly straight forward. There is an outside chance of two events I might attend. I will try to stick as closely as possible to clean eating and keep up my exercise.

Habit is habit and not to be flung out of the window by any man, but coaxed downstairs a step at a time.
Mark Twain
This is a great thing to remember on those days when I am ranting about measuring and keeping track of everything I put in my mouth. Also for those days when I can't seem to put one foot in front of the other. I need to find more great places to hike around here. I live in a valley so it's pretty flat for hiking! Biking is more appropriate I suppose, but it never seems to give me the work out I need.
Anyone have a spouse that is set in their ways? My husband is so into routine, it's hard to get him to deviate. For instance our weekends go like this:
Friday: he visits his 86 year old mom after work, gets home a bit late, has to have his 2 or 3 cocktails. I have to nag to make sure dinner gets on my 7 PM. We are usually late.
Saturday: Get up read the paper, have breakfast, go for a bike ride. We usually ride on his schedule (he'd just as soon not go).
Then he works in the yard and garage until after 2 or 3 PM. Whatever sports are on TV, we watch. Before I changed my ways, we would have a martini before lunch. He still does occasionally.
Sunday: Sports du-jour. Football season brings all day viewing. If our team plays in the morning we don't bike ride at all.
I guess I need to walk him down the stairs gently.

Well I managed to buy more groceries today after finally figuring out some recipes for the next week or so. But going to the store always throws me off my routine. Anyway, I could never get excited about my exercise this afternoon and after doing 15-20 or maybe 25 minutes on my exercise bike (I forgot to start my timer on my watch!!!) I got really bored. I tried to do the treadmill but got over that really quick too. I'm so much better getting my workouts done in the morning.
I did manage to do some ab work this afternoon, but that's about it.

This is a very interesting food pyramid. I'm going to try and follow this as closely as possible starting today.
