Today I decided instead of focusing on a weight loss diet, that I would research healthy foods. I googled several websites that list the world's healthiest foods. I found out that microwaving vegetables for a short time is more healthy than steaming or boiling. I found several of my favorite foods on these lists, including frozen blueberries, broccoli, dark chocolate, beets, and some:
Healthy Foods you never thought of
I looked at Cooking Light at the check stand in the grocery store today, but instead chose Prevention. Cooking Light was so full of ads I couldn't even find the recipe index. :(
Prevention had some very interesting and healthy recipes.

So nice to have 3 weeks behind me with a slow but steady loss at this point. From what I read, this is the best way. 8 pounds lost in the last three weeks. Hoping to lose 7 more in the next 3 weeks. I need to step up the strength workouts and increase aerobics a bit. I should be very happy I made it through a difficult week.
Journaling on fatsecret makes it so much less tedious. It's nice to know that I can easily print my diaries to take to a professional at any point as well.
In my browsing I ran across a very interesting article about the CR society. They have done studies that show a Restricted Calorie diet lengthens your life when done properly. Of course, it's more than just counting calories, these people balance all nutritional requirements as well. Although I'm not sure I could live on 1300 calories for the rest of my life, I'm sure the websites will be helpful in learning to live with eating less than I have been.

Every day it gets a bit easier. Rarely hungry. Hip didn't hurt as much jogging on treadmill today, but I'd like to increase time. Going to the mountains tomorrow, so will definitely do some jogging and hiking while there. I have planned all my meals while away to stay on track.

Well, I would have rather seen 2 lbs, but I know that's not totally realistic. And the good news is I managed to maintain the whopping 5 lbs I lost the first week. Hopefully my body will adjust and I can average 2 lbs a week. I am trying to keep under 1400 calories a day averaging around 1300, with at least 1 hour of aerobics and weights or strength type exercises 3 times a week. Am going to cut mountain time to long weekend so should be manageable.

Well today will be my first real test because I have to go out to eat at my son's house. It's a BBQ, and although his girlfriend is very conscious of healthy food, I'm afraid because I know my son loves to use fat. I have tried to eat less for breakfast and dinner, will just eat in small amounts at BBQ. Yay! Today is the last day of two weeks sticking to my program. It's always the hardest the first few weeks. I face another hurdle later this week when we go to the mountains. No handy internet. I'll have to walk up the mountain or drive up to get reception so I can log my calories. Won't be able to scan things unless I prearrange all my meals before I go. I may just do that.
Woot! Made it through the BBQ with eating nothing. Had a couple of glasses of champagne and came home to have a bowl of soup. Phew, dodged a bullet. It's too early to shoot at the hip.
