Start Weight

Lost so far: 60.0 lb

Current Weight
288.0 lb
Performance: losing 2.8 lb a week

Goal Weight
250.0 lb
Still to go: 38.0 lb
I've struggled with my weight ever since I was young, but I am taking control of that and am making significant progress.

I've tried various kinds of diets, and have found some success with many of them, but the only diet that has had sustained weight loss results is the Keto diet.

When I last hit a plateau, which was just under 280lbs, I rebounded to 290lbs and decided to seek additional help. I received a RMR test that showed my resting metabolic rate was 1987 calories. It was suggested that I try a low carbohydrate diet, which I researched and found the Keto diet style.

Fast forward and I am now approximately 100lbs from my start weight, about 50 of which have been lost this year, and I hope to lose another 50 before the end of the year. When I reach this goal, I will switch gears towards the next goal.

I will again take the RMR test to see where I am at metabolically so that I may better maintain my new found weight. I will then allow myself to rotate between "bulking" and "cutting" phases, limiting fat gains while allowing myself to increase muscle mass more quickly.

These are long term goals to be sure, but I do set smaller goals for myself and allow myself to enjoy life on occasion! However, I wish to push through to no less than 220 before the end of year, preferably 200, but I am sure that the weight loss will slow before I reach that point and the end of the year may be unrealistic.

Question regarding calories of raw foods. Particularly meat.
I noticed that I lost a lot more weight than I should had while attempting a Keto diet for some time. Based on testing results and estimates of calorie expenditure of physical activity, there was actually a larger loss than the deficit would had implied.

I understand that there is an initial significant loss from water weight, I'm talking about 30+ lbs after that, which has lead me to the hypothesis that the calories are lower because of the refuse that has cooked out of the meat which is a large part of the diet I have been on.

Is this possible? If it is, it is likely I have not actually maintained my macros as well as I had hoped. I'm no nutritionist so I would love a little support on this D:.

Ketosis and Carb Loading
I was wondering if someone could explain something to me so I better understand as it has not been explained in the reading I have done.

I can tell that I am becoming more Keto adapated as I am feeling the appetite suppression as well as the increased energy and mental focus. I understand that while I am not well Keto adapted, I may lose ketones through urination as some are wasted due to the body being unable to properly use them for energy.

Does this mean that I burn more body fat during the time in which I am becoming Keto adapted then when I finally become fully Keto adapted? Would this warrant an occasional reset, say once every couple of months?

I'm wondering if that logic is sound or if I'm just fishing for an excuse to eat carbs once in a while.

Ketostix - How to achieve a darker color.
So I got my hands on an e-book version of "Keto Clarity" last night and skimmed through some of it to glean some information I was looking for. It answered the majority of the questions in some degree, such as the Ketostix are in no way related to the intensity of the Ketosis and that once a person becomes "Keto-adapted" they may not show much if any excess Ketones even if they are in Ketosis.

My follow up question is, based on that information, is it safe to say that I am in some level of Ketosis if the strips at least change slightly on a consistent basis?

I am trying to up the fat and lower the protein more consistently, while also avoiding more than 25 carbs a day. I replaced multiple condiments with lower carb versions and threw away anything with high fructose corn syrup. So there are those pluses!
