I started my latest weight-loss initiative in December 2009 when I weighed in at 436 lbs. After extensive research and consultations I had decided to have the gastric by-pass done. Before I could have the surgery, I was asked to lose 70 lbs. In addition to demonstrating commitment to the process, pre-op weight-loss also softens the tissue around the surgical area and it helps to reduce/minimize the risk of any complications during and after the surgery.
By 02/15/2010 I had only lost 9.5 lbs. To help me achieve the initial 70 lbs weight-loss goal, and based on the recommendations from my surgeon, I started a medically supervised high liquid protein regimen based on the HMR 500 program. I also included a 2-mile per day walking regimen.
While on HMR, I achieved a weight-loss rate of about 6.5 lbs per week. On 05/04/2010, the day before my surgery, I weighed in at 339 lbs. That was a total weight loss of 97 lbs since December 09. The surgery went very well. Recovery has been painless and I am feeling great.
My goal here at this site is to document my post-op weight-loss to ultimately achieve my goal of 210 lbs.
