Selbygirl6's Journal, 12 December 2016

I am pleased to see another drop in my weight. It looks like I will be able to make my goal of being under 220 by Christmas with no problem. I purchased a new scarf and sweater over the weekend and wore them last night with a pair of size 14 jeans (the stretchy kind) that have been languishing untouched in my dresser for the past few years. I went to a monthly movie club that I have belonged to for 6 years now. I have to admit I was at first disappointed, and later annoyed, that not a single person (out of 16) noticed that I had lost weight. I was 17 lbs heavier at our last meeting which was on Halloween (6 weeks ago). Really, people? No one? I'm not sure why I was so ticked off about it but I was and I left early because it seemed to be a dessert fest at the meeting. I found myself actually repulsed by all the fudge, cakes, cookies and candy. The hostess kept offering me dessert and then saying, "Oh that's right. You gave up sugar. Are you going to be OK with having to look at this all night?" I ended up telling her that I'd rather be healthy and feel great than eat any of the desserts. Again, not sure why I was so annoyed but there it is. Happy Monday everybody.

I'm proud of you little sis. It was an overload on sweets and while most the folks there have seen you off and on at one function or another since Halloween, none have seen me. Ditto for the people in my office that haven't seen me for a full week. I'm down 25 lbs since March, but not a single comment last night or today.

Wow on you story....to lose 17lbs. Good job. Sorry that no one was nice enough to comment on your progress, but people can be very self centered at times. Once again...good job and keep it up.

I am annoyed the other way - people exclaim how great I look NOW - my brother who is a professional comic has been the only one to say out loud "Cuz you were really a porker last summer!" - so I try to look inside and make sure I am getting healthy for myself and not anyone else.

Some people.....yeah *sighs* It's human nature to want some praise for hard work and effort. I get that, but you might not get it ever from these people or maybe you will get it the next time you see them? Maybe they were too focused on all the sugary junk they were going to get to eat? Who knows. I saw you in your pic and you are looking pretty FAB to me if that helps or counts. :)))

Way to go! I'm sorry they didn't notice, It seemed no one noticed that I had lost weight until it was past the 20 pound mark.

Most noticed after the 25-30 lbs mark in my case.

Thanks everybody. I appreciate the support and yep I am losing weight for myself and I don't think I necessarily need anyone's approval or appreciation except my own. Not sure why I felt so annoyed at the party. I wasn't in the right head space when I went because I left so many things at home "undone" in order to go to the party. I might have been blaming it on them not noticing the weight loss when in reality it was because I wore a really cool outfit, as did my sister Jean, and not one person said anything about either of us looking nice, regardless of noticing our weight. I guess that's a deep button for me. I've been overweight since I was a child and it seems that most people have a difficult time complimenting "fat people" because all they see is "Fat" when they look at you. Even if you are in a tux there is that weird body judgement. I think deep down I was more annoyed that they didn't say anything to my sister and she looked really great and was in a great mood. Oh well. It's life right? :-) All you guys are great. I know you can appreciate and understand these crazy thoughts o'mine. Happy Holidays.

I totally get why it bothered you.I had the same experience. When I was heavier, people always made comments and were quick to offer unwanted advice. When I startted losing,no one noticed for almost a year.
