The scales moved YAY!

And they went UP - YAY again!!

Seriously, that is a plus.
Why?

Because I need to find what works and what doesn't work for me. I appreciate that this teeeny self-experiment isn't in any way absolutely conclusive, but if it helps to point me in a direction further to carry on I am happy to take it.

When I added a couple of hundred kcals for two days and added a bit more on the third, all from carbohydrate, I rapidly gained a kilo on the scales. I know I know, easy come easy go, and it was all back to status quo in a reasonably short time.

The net gain from the start of the increased fat derived kcals to today's weight is 100g. That's the weight gain I am talking about, not the FS one which measures the gain from my nosedive low, taken (interestingly) while I was still eating MORE by way of kcals.

What did I do this time?

I added significantly MORE kcals in the form of fat and further reduced carbohydrate, my weight took a nosedive, before finally bobbing up to today's gain.

I am talking significant increase in kcals from fat, going up to 500 kcals increase, and I did this over a much longer period of 6 not 3 days. In the end I had to give up as I just can't keep eating that much. But it's only today, the scales may BOOM up by tomorrow. I somehow don't think they will, but there is only one way to find out. Wait and see :)

I am SO happy. :D

Why? I find a level of food intake which I can't sustain because it's too much, which correlates with the level of food which starts me to gain weight, albeit so far, slowly. I worked hard to gain 100g, from the start date of the increased kcals. That is a tenth of what I gained, oh so easily, by eating around 50g more carbohydrate over three days.....

It shows me that the kcals DO count. That my body tells me when enough is enough. That weight loss, for me, is about watching the macro nutrients in preference to the kcals and that it's ok to stop eating even if the kcals are low, or it's ok to eat more of the right foods for me even if the kcals are high.

I am a lot less aware of other factors governing the day to day energy requirements of my body. Sure, I know what activity my levels have been like, in a broad sense. I don't log it, it's so variable and with other environmental and emotional factors, it's impossible to account for. I know that I have been cold or warm and that I have been mentally more active or not, but I don't really have too good a handle on all that side of things. My body obviously does, and I trust it. I can now listen to my body as I am starting to learn to read the signs rather than follow some dogma which may or may not work for someone else.

I LOVE IT!!!

I love my body, I love my life, I love, love, love eating my food.

Hello Penlan, I was travelling yesterday all day from the morning to the evening but bus, train, plain and bus; I only drunk water because I couldn't find anything good to eat at the right time and anyway I was just sleeping all the time so after a day not eating anything I went to scale to check and I had put a couple of kilos, can you explain that? I think that to get an accurate measurement of your progress you need to take into account other factors as your body measurements, etc

Enjoy your experimating Penlan. I agree with Project_2016 and I know you will too - it's a lot more than a number on a box. Enjoy!

Project_2016, I have no concrete idea why your weight would show such a rise. Perhaps, in the face of starvation and lots of water drunk you had a chance to be really well hydrated. You don't record anything in your food diary, so I have no information, apart from that most people are borderline dehydrated for most of the time. Not saying you are, but if you were, no food and lots of water yesterday would give your body chance to catch up and hold onto that beautiful bounteous water. Lack of physical movement also causes water retention and oedema. Water weighs heavy at a kilo a litre, and we are a lot of water so it's perfectly possible for our water retention and hydration levels to play big numbers on the scales. I do also take body measurements, and they go up and down with the weight :) I noticed in particular that when I gained a kilo with carbs my waist measurement went way up. All I do is for myself. Yes, Pepsacins, I am happy come what may, why be otherwise? If I feel pain, I feel pain. I don't like pain so I find the joy in everything as much as I can, even if it's a weight gain on my weight loss journey. I use it as a positive force rather than a stick to beat myself with, because not only do I not like pain, I LOVE JOY and happiness, because it makes me feel GOOD :D :D
