madaboutmoose's Journal, 22 November 2009

I did some ciphering early this morning. I decided I wanted to find out what my average weight had been for the past four months because the day-to-day fluctuations sometimes puts me in a place to think I am doing GREAT if I go down and HORRID if I go up. My brain knows that isn't true but I think my brain needed some extra evidence. So I added all my weights since July 1st through this morning (when I weighed in at 181 after a 179.8 yesterday despite decent calories and exercise). I was shocked at the result.

MY AVERAGE IS 178.9!!!

Now, that isn't bad!!!

Mom and I had fun yesterday. We went to lunch together, shopped at CWC and of course spent money, and then went to see our friend Betty who is in a care facility working on recovering from a stroke she suffered. I can hardly believe it but I actually bought size 10 pants and medium tops. Ladies and Gents I have NEVER in my whole entire adult life worn a size 10 anything!! I know sizes fluctuate by manufacturer and by the cut of the clothing item but still ... hot damn girl!!! Not bad for an average of 178.9. I need to learn not to be so impacted by the number. I tell my mom that all the time but I need to work on it too. It is psychological I think ... that I think I am still fat because I weigh in the 170's or 180's. My picture of myself in my head (body image) is still FAT most of the time. I suppose that will take a long, long time to shift. Sometimes I wonder if it ever will. I'm sure many of you can relate.

So here's a picture from my dining room this morning ... it will serve to delight those of you who LOVE snow like me and reassure others that they are so grateful that they do not live where it snows or perhaps strike fear in those that live where it snows but it hasn't snowed in your hometown yet!! LOL!!!

And finally ... my five for today

Wow! What an awesome view! You are helping me so much to grow accustomed to fluctuations that are completely NATURAL and NORMAL. Thank you for that. You are also helping me stretch the acceptable range for weight fluctuation. I left you a note over on my journal. I - too -love Sundays! Love - love - love 'em!

What a great "5" for today. I have to admit, I am a little bit envious that you and your mother are so close and hang out together doing "girl" things. I love my mother with all my heart, but since I am the oldest of 11 children, we never really had much one-on-one time together. We still don't. I'm 37 now and my youngest brother is 15, so my mother is still raising children! I love my huge family, but at times the little girl in me wishes for that kind of bond with my mother that you seem to have. (Don't misunderstand me...I do love her and think she's been the most wonderful mother to all of us)

Twilight ... we each have blessings in different ways. I do feel so blessed to have my mother ... and you are so blessed to have siblings you are close to!!! Wow ... the oldest of eleven? My goodness ... I'm the oldest of two!! Thank you ... it is important to count blessings ... sometimes I forget ... and mom won't always be here with me!! I hope you have a great day!!

Great average! That's a good idea to calculate your average. It puts it all into perspective. Size 10's!!! WOO HOO!! That's awesome! Nice view from the dining room. Very pretty. Have a wonderful Sunday! :-)

Love the view. Its very similar to the view from my front window. Its a little farther away though. You are so right to feel blessed to have your Mom with you. I still miss the close relationship I had with mine even though I've been without her for 6 years now. I'vejust done some calculations too. Like you I feel 'bad' when I go up and 'good' when I lose. As I'm not there yet, I calculated my average weight loss per week and was quite surprised to find that if I don't lose any more til Jan I'll have averaged a pound and a half every week. We really must line up our mental picture of our body image and get our heads round the fact that the majority of people go up and down a few pounds quite naturally. Enjoy your snow - Can't wait for ours.

Doing the Size 10 Happy Dance! tappity tappity tap! Wahoo! I love your view! The snow makes me long for a 'snow day' off from school. I certainly relate to the body image thing. I hope eventually our brains catch up to our bodies (does that mean we have 'fat heads'?)!

Flax ... I don't know why I never thought about averages before!! We are both doing well ... happy happy joy joy!!! It has finally stopped snowing ... very pretty outside, probably got 3 inches. All of us "fatheads" will have to keep at this ... helping our brains catch up to reality!!

The averaging technique might do me some good as well, although for different reasons. judging from the picture, it looks like you are surrounded by peace. Keep up the great work moose! :-)
