mrsmole's Journal, 21 March 2014

Well, the speech contest is finally over and I came in second place! That may sound good until I tell you there were only three of us competing. LOL. Still, it's better than coming in dead last. I will post my video in a few days so those who wish to can see it.

Good news is, I don't have to keep stressing and practicing for weeks to come for the next Division. Some said the guy who won was really good. I got confused by his speech and didn't think he was a worthy opponent, but what really matters most is what the judges thought. I actually thought the guy who came in last would beat me. Hah!

I did the best I could, and I can't ask any more of myself.

I will confess that for the first time in months, the disappointment of losing to someone whom I believed to be a less than worthy opponent made me feel like going out and getting a pizza! LOL. Luckily, I know better and I didn't. But man, it's funny how those old knee jerk reactions are still embedded so deeply.

Thanks to all those who supported me. There's always next year. Trying hard to be a gracious loser and a good sport. Public speaking is so hard to begin with. Hope the winner does well at the next level.

Cheers,
Dom

I think the stat is that 95% would rather die than give a public speech. Maybe true. Maybe if you had a gun they'd change their mind. *smirk* I look forward to seeing the video. Hey, look at the bright side. You didn't have to do it sick.

i know what it feels like to loose from a lesser opponent. That is the S*** with jury-sports... Just stay true to yourself, if you feel he was not better then you, he probably wasn't! No self-pitty, self-pitty is your worst enemy! Sooo looking forward to youtube now. And when is your next competition?

Hey young lady cool it right now. First of all you lost NOTHING but gained experience. Next you came in first runner up and not last. Third you gave your best and you should be so proud of that. In every competition there has to be a first place and we all know that was the place you wanted. However, in all things in life there is someone who can do that little bit better for whatever reason,a good looking guy who takes a judges fancy perhaps or the sound of a voice that attracts who knows what it was but the fact is another was awarded the coveted position of first. You my dear friend were so good they decided to award you first runner up which is infinitely better than last. I wonder how the person who was awarded that position feels this morning knowing not one but two people were better than they. My heart is with you this morning but I sincerely hope you can feel proud of your achievement you deserve to be so. xoxoxox

It is not whether you win or lose, it is how you play the game. And you rocked it!

It was a win in itself to have participated, like NM said, most wouldn't. I am sure you did amazing :-). I also find it quite interesting how old habits make their appearance after so long. I find that both with food and being a former smoker. Of course like you I know better and its never something I would act on, but it's almost like a stranger inside my head whispering "you need a cigarette" or "How about we bake cake". It almost startles me lol. Congrats to you for recognizing that fleeting thought for what it was. Have a wonderful weekend!!

You did it and for many of us, that takes a tremendous amount of courage. I couldn't. I'd puke or pass out. Now you can focus on other things in your life that you enjoy without the worry and stress of the contest. Cool on the loss.

I so admire someone who can get up and talk. I get so nervous and stressed at public speaking. Even in front of friends. Keep up the good work.

Hey all. I'm done with the pity party. I usually don't pout for long. LOL. Please see today's Journal for an update.
