HealthyBabs's Journal, 14 December 2010

Up a pound this week, not sweating it. Really not wanting to weigh in thru the holidays and just make good choices, but I think it will at least keep me aware of gains/losses. Exercising more and just being thrown off my "normal" plan is going to cause fluctuations. Don't want to make the scale the only gauge of how well I am doing.

Absolutely, Babs... the scale is only ONE tool. The best one is our tape measure, our clothes and the inside of our heads if we listen! lol... Stay positive!

I so agree about the scale. And I love how you feel about your Christmas birthday. Thanks for the wishes for my daughter. I will definitely have to share your positive attitude about it with her. She might appreciate it more as she gets older. My other kids have told her that they don't get to see so much of the extended family on their birthdays like she gets to do. But she has also had to endure more of those birthday spankings from more people too, LOL!

Thanks gals, got thru the potluck today. Didn't do too badly except for that chocolate cupcake and the sugar cookies. Good news was I had no chips & dips, doritos, cheese puffs, something I could't decifer what the ingredients were or any soda. Stuck with the main dishes of those I know who made it. I am kinda funny that way, don't like to eat just anybody's food. 2nd potluck is Thursday, making spinach salad for that one. Wish me luck!

Great job with the potluck. I also hate to eat other people's food unless I know who the person is that made it. Might be why I don't like buffets at restaurants. Actually, I don't really like restaurants all that much either. lol And I am sure that you will do great at the potluck Thursday!

You've got a great outlook for the holidays, very reasonable and doable. Good luck on that next potluck. We went to one last month and ended up just eating what we took, as there really wasn't anything else Atkins-friendly.

I know what you mean about not wanting to weigh. I really don't either due to being ill, drastically reduced activity and drastic dietary changes. But hey, we're still working at it and although that darn scale isn't the only measure, it does help keep us accountable. :)

Personally, I am horrified by the prospect of the office party on Friday. I'm into a routine of giving myself one meal per week when I get to eat whatever I want, and the great thing is that more and more, even my "splurge" meal is not quite so unhealthy. But Iam still really having trouble when I go to a big party with platters and bowls full of bad stuff. So Babs -- I'm with you all the way. If you skipped the chips and dips, more power to you. On the one hand, I like the sound of just staying even over the holidays. On the other hand, I joined the "goal by birthday" group, and that deadline is coming up just 8 weeks from yesterday. I just have to stay strong. Do any of you work in an office where lots of vendors send food packages this time of year? I'm hiding out in my office to avoid the cookies and candy...
