Djburney's Journal, 12 January 2013

I've been continuing my LCHF eating, but I have added the use of the hunger scale. If you are not familiar with it you can Google it, but simply stated, it is a 1-10 scale with 1 being absolutely famished and faint, and 10 being the most stuffed you can remember. I've heard about it for a long time, but hadn't really internalized it, and didn't feel that it would apply to me because I was an emotional eater and sometimes couldn't tell the difference.

It's working now, though, and by eating high fat foods, it takes a lot longer for me to get hungry. I'm paying attention to that, not worrying about what time of day I'm eating (i.e. lunch time), and stopping when I'm between a 5-6, which is satisfied but not full. I let myself get pretty hungry before I eat, around a 3-2. Last night before going to happy hour (at a pizza bar!) I ate two small chicken thighs, and then ordered a salad with chicken on it at the restaurant. Halfway through the salad I lost interest in it. The hunger scale was working! However, the real test would have been if I had been eating the flatbread with guacamole that the people next to us had ordered. Would I have stopped? I guess practicing on salad is good.

LOL - I want to sit at the table next to you (flatbread & guacamole!) Nahh... I'll sit with you and learn from your techniques. I've actually lost interest in meals too and struggle with it because I think 'well, if I stop eating now, I have to go adjust my food diary and ...' crazy thoughts. Trying to be accurate, right, on track. However, I am going to go get some quacamole & flatbread crackers now - my hunger is at a 3... Have a great Saturday. Bella

I will hace to google that. Like you I have noticed myself stopping even if it is something I really like...such as wings. I ordered 10 hotwings last night but stopped at 8....I was full!!

Love the not paying attention to the time of day that you eat. This is an ongoing issue with my husband and I. In fact I just sat down to check out FS with my (lunch) salad @ 3pm....husband says "lunch???? it's almost time for dinner...WHY didn't you eat at noon?" He drives me crazy with needing to eat by the clock and not by his hunger.

I guess there are a few perks to being single, no one says anything about when, what, or why I what I do. The downside to that is no says anything at all to me about anything.

In my opion you have the best of both worlds.....do what you want when you want to do it and HOW you want to do it! And then when you feel the need you can date;)

...Said to a woman sitting home alone on Saturday night. However, I did have a date scheduled but he felt like he was getting the flu. We all want what we don't have, right?

Interesting about the hunger scale. If you can tap into that it would Derek to be the key to maintenance. Interesting about wanting what we do have. Someone gave me a quote that was the key to happiness....wanting what you already have. I am fairly content but I like to tweak things.
