Getting closer to the preliminary goal...and may decide to go down further.. Even though I don't believe in the BMI equation ...and still find it hard to believe that modern medicine, insurance companies, nutritionists and many other put so much faith in an equation that was devised by a Belgium astronomer and mathematician over 170 years ago..That aid, would be interesting to get back in the suggested range.. Was easy at 40 year old,,, a bit tougher at 63.. Started this adventure 14 month ago at 230 lbs... now 175.5
175.5 lb Lost so far: 22.5 lb.    Still to go: 12.5 lb.    Diet followed reasonably well.
losing 2.6 lb a week

I just read your diary and saw that you do cyclical Keto too! My husband and I have been doing that at 720 cal for 5 days of Keto a month. the rest of the time we just watch what we eat and try to cals down to 1400 a day. Is that similar to what you have been doing?

To: MereSess There are three keys to it all that are often overlooked or incomplete.. because it does take concentrated discipline.. Many will watch calories, many will exercise, many will watch macros and many will also give in to desire and say the hell with it.. and as Yoda said, "Do it or do not, there is no try." The first key is consistency.. you must make it a lifestyle , not a diet... Doing one of the aforementioned will get short term results... however..it also leads to the dreaded plateau.. and that plateau is often what makes people give in to desire..Second key; carbohydrates...they are everywhere and in everything...gotta watch carbs... third.. You have to make exercise not an activity, like bowling of softball on Saturdays... you must make it a Religion...The combination of these all leads to verifiable results over time... So, at least for me the formula has been all of the above.. I started with very strict ketogenics combined with regular , serious physical training.. for me that is 5 days a week in the weight room and 6 days a week with martial art.. but regardless of the activity you choose.. you can't let anything give you an excuse to not do it.. So, 2 months on strict keto at 1500 calories a day... followed by a month of cyclical keto.. then back to strict keto and so on... That with consistent exercise got me back down to this weight...Once I hit the target weight...(unless I decide to go lower.. I will transition to a lower carb , paleo diet to maintain that weight... But it doe depend on what you mean with cyclical keto ? For me, during the cyclical month.. I still do keto 5 days a week... and have 2 carb up days..at which time I'll go from 20-40 grams of carbs to around 200-250... This is a good way for those who weight train as it restores the glycogen storehouse that feeds muscle energy... Since most people eat between 300 and 500 carbs a day 250 is still under the norm and is only done 2 days a week... then after that month back to keto... It also makes keto and easier diet because you know that it is not forever... just until you reach your target

I read an article about BMI and there are some better alternates based on waist measurement. it gives a better indication of health risks.

To Tahoebrun: I believe there are many misconceptions, outdated and false protocol many of which were established by those just like the guy that established BMI... There are many, many flaws in his theory that professionals don't seem to take into account.. There are different body types..i.e. endomorph, ectomorph and mesomorph. For a mesomorph to try to meet a standard set using ectomorphic standards is an exercise in futility..and if they believe what they are told... then eventually they will fail...simply because they are not the same.. I fall somewhere in between endo and meso.. and my professional health care providers have always said I am obese... by the BMI.. I am still on the edge of that...and if I followed my doctors advice..and the BMI... I would not be healthy... My personal suggested weight range , according to the BMI is between 122 and 164.. Are you fricking kidding me... I haven't weighed 122 since I was in 6th grade..and if I did at 63.. I would not only look but feel like an end stage cancer patient... The BMI is BS..sss... Regardless of what health professionals say... they alo do not take into account genetics, ethnic heritage, life situation and a dozen more factors..Like my profile says.. I have trained.. 10's of thousands of people in 40 years as an active martial arts teacher...and I wouldn't dream of telling a ectomorph that he can get ripped like Arnold... I also wouldn't tell an endomorph that he can be the Tour de France winner.. These would both be lies.. to satisfy who... follow the money..to who ??? We are who we are...and our best self knows when we reach our best self. another misconception... eat a huge breakfast, smaller lunch and tiny dinner... really??? I think not.. lol..maybe I should write a book about this stuff..Ranger on !!!
