T Dillon's Journal, 07 February 2018

I've been faithful to my eating plan of less then 900 calories a day and no sugar or excessive carbs. Now I am seeing no weight loss and small weight gains. I always go through this, so now I am dropping my daily calories to under 500 and increasing to two workouts a day. I've got a wicked bad thyroid and have endured a terribly slow metabolism all my life. The key is not to get too frustrated, deal with the circumstances and don't let depression and the old habits take control. I have the power and chose to use it. I'm not in this to fit into some imaginary clothes, for some random event or for love and attention, I'm in it for my health.

I’m no expert, but you probably aren’t losing because your calories are way too low?? You will just slow your metabolism even more by eating so few calories (from my limited understanding.)

I agree. When you eat too few calories, your body goes into starvation/survival mode and slows your metabolism down to conserve what energy your body has. 500 calories a day is not enough for any adult.

Hi T Dillon, I looked but couldn't see your meals are you logging you intake, remember if you bite you must write! It's proven to help to keep us accountable. Secondly hows your water, are you getting 8 glasses a day. Next your carbs, if you maintain 20 grams a day or less you will see a drop! I mention the carbs because I did that and it worked for me, and you mention your diabetic. Diabetes thrives on carbs, I no longer take metformin a diabetic medication! By cutting carbs your body will go into ketosis. Your body will start burning your stored fat for energy then the weight loss will continue. Good luck with your journey!

Under-eating, over-working your body, and not having any energy because of lack of calories and necessary nutrients are 100% why you’re not seeing results. In fact, doing this to your body can cause a lot of health complications in the long-run. Try a diet like Paleo, or Keto, calculate how many calories you should be eating according to your BMI, and what your weight-loss goal is, and work out 4-5 times a week. 500 or even 900 calories is day will do more bad than it will good! Good luck!

I like a phrase you said in your post..."Choose to Use!"

900 CALORIES IS NOT ENOUGH!!! Take it from me i dropped my calories down to 1800 and saw a weight stall. I then upped my calories up to 2750-2400 daily and then i started losing weight. You need to determine your basal metabolic rate, then determine your TDEE (total daily energy expenditure) then once you have both those figures you can reduce calories by 500 and expect to lose .5-2 lbs a week. Sorry but 900 calories is considered a crash diet and will shut your hormones down. My wife has hypothyroid and i help her regulate her thyroid. Only with a complete diet, a multi-vitamin,fish oil, and exercise has she been able to lose weight. Good luck!

My daughter lost weight when I forced her to INCREASE her calories from 600 to 1500 when she was an athlete. She had fainted on the mat during training on three separate occasions. The increase in calories and their quality made her to both feel better and perform better.

If you're working out a lot you could be gaining muscle mass which weighs more than fat. My mom had a similar issue with trying to restrict her calorie intake along with rigorous exercise, and she was starting to get pretty sick before we intervened. Sure her weight was lower, but she had all the hallmarks of malnutrition (low stamina, low body temp, brittle hair, etc.). She's heavier now than she was then, but it's solid muscle.
