forresst's Journal, 18 July 2017

Here I am, day 1 again of soooo many days before. My doctor recommended this app and wants me to plan and record my meals, counting my calories and start being successful at weight loss. I have had so many excuses not to get serious but I am out of time. I always told myself that if my health was suffering I would deal with my weight issues.

Well, here I am 45 years old and it all came roaring toward me almost 2 years ago. Have I done something about it? Not lately.
So, here I am. Day 1. I have to be successful for these reasons:

1) I want to live a long life
2) My heart will thank me
3) My liver will thank me
4) My 8 year old son deserves to have me in his life.
5) My 5 year old daughter deserves to have me in her life.
6) Walking would be easier
7) Just being in my skin would be easier.
8) Get rid of cpap machine.
9) Go hiking instead of watching nature from the car.
10) Do active things with my kids.
11) Be a good healthy food role model for my kids.
12) Shop at more than one store. Expand ward robe with smaller clothes.
13) Not be so obsessed with the next meal. More head space for other things.
14) Be proud of accomplishing a large weight loss, again.
15) Life. Love. Happiness. Health.

I have had several large weight losses in the past. I can do this. 25 pounds at a time.
403.0 lb Lost so far: 0 lb.    Still to go: 153.0 lb.    Diet followed reasonably well.

Well done you, the first step of many happier ones. You will find the people on this site are hugely supportive and if you have a blip, dip or complete fail they understand and will help you through it. Good luck Forresst, and welcome.

Hey Forresst! Welcome. The first step is usually the hardest and that's to recognise you need to change. By listing your reasons, you've done that. Youll have good days and bad days; days where you feel on top of the changed way of life and days you just want to curl up with mashed potatoes and gravy followed by a large tub of ice cream. (No? Just me then! 😂) Set some mini-milestones along the way, maybe even smaller than 25lbs, and don't forget the non-scale victories; the things when the scales don't seem to move but you're having to hitch your pants up all the time or someone asks you "are you losing weight?". All the very best!

My partner did this, from starting at 200kg, severe sleep apnea, and more health problems than I care to count. Now still losing, (I don't know weight numbers, now jeans 38) but total life outlook transformation. Unfortunately they're not on any social media, but feel free to message me if you have questions about techniques what worked for them. (Some, like getting A1C numbers every 3 months, aren't mentioned on any diet sites or information I've seen. ) It reached point where I really need to up my own game, so now I'm here. :-)

No doubt it is going to be a hard transition from where you are at to where you want to be Forresst, however all the reasons you've listed are more than enough motivation to strive for those goals. There have been several life changing, real people, weight loss examples here on Fat Secret, use their habits, ways of eating and mindset as a starting point on your journey and you'll have at least a reasonable chance of success. Remember, this is not a sprint, to have true success this needs to be your new you!! Good luck and wishing you great success on your journey!!
