I've gone blind in my left eye in 2013 and losing my vision in my right eye due to an eye disease called optic neuritis. I've had to have numerous steroid infusions and I'm on prednisone and Imuran. I'll be on the steroids until September but I've gained 30lbs already. I just started eating 1400 calories a day in hopes of losing some of the weight. does anyone have any other suggestions that might help me know what to eat? I'm so uncomfortable in my skin right now and my mind from the meds. there is no cure for my eyes and trying to get on disability now but in the mean time I need this weight off cause I can't afford to by new clothes and like I said the prednisone has my body fat and deformed.

Michelle, it`s so sad to hear about your eyes and I hope you won`t lose your vision totally. I would suggest you to choose diet you want to stick to and then give it a go. I`m on Keto and it works for me. You will need to check how much fat and protein you can have depending on your body mass. But I`m not sure if the diet will make your health condition worst so I don`t really want to advise. I wish you all best.

I've only had to take steroids for short periods of time for RA flare ups. What stopped me from gaining weight (and I actually lost a couple of pounds) was making sure I drink lots of water, avoid fast foods, sugar, and don't over do the salt intake. I'm sorry you're going through all this and hope you don't lose your vision completely. I have a niece by marriage and she also has optic neuritis/Devic's Disease.

I also take prednisone and gained 25 pounds. I follow a 1500 calorie plan with about 60% fat, 25% protein, and 15% carbs. I drink a liter of water after each meal. I try to lower my intake of sodium which is hard. Any processed food has salt, so I cook my meat and veggies without salt. I don't use condiments or eat olives or pickles. I am losing slowly. I started on prednisone in December and it was a weekly trial and error until I found what works for me.
