Happy Almost Weekend, my Fabulous Followers:

Next week I scheduled a quick blood lab at my endocrinologist to be sure my medication is stable. I do not think there will be a change but since the Idiot Box is stuck, it is worth a check.

I am excited because I ordered a new FitBit. I have the Charge HR right now, and just ordered the Alta HR which is a slimmer band. I am hard on my FitBits...I have had three already... and will keep the current one as a "back-up" model.

Work is incredibly busy right now - one more intense week and then I have a vacation! Woo-Hoo! We are going to the Virginia Beach area to scout out the area as a possible retirement location in a few years!

Enjoy VA Beach. One of my favorite places to visit back in the day. My sister worked there for the Edgar Casey Foundation, and it was great to get away from the DC Metro area for a weekend of white sand and fresh seafood.

A word of advice, if you don't mind hearing it... when your endo does his lab checks, if you have thyroid issues, ask to get your Reverse T-3, your TG antibodies (TgAb), your TPO antibodies (TPOAb), as well as your TSH, T3, and T4 levels all checked. THEN, ask for a copy of your results (because your typical endo does not consider crazy high antibodies to be a problem as long as your T4 and TSH are in normal limits!) and check them out either with a functional medicine doctor or at least google the results of each test online and learn what they really represent and mean to your short and long term health. I had been told I had hypothyroidism for 20 years, and unbeknownst to me, I actually had Hashimoto's (which is common for low thyroid diagnosis in the USA) and my thyroid was being destroyed by my body (and the antibodies were wrecking havoc on my brain as well) and no one would diagnose me correctly until I'd developed 15 different allergies and my thyroid had been completely and irreversibly destroyed. So, if you are going anyway, its worth a look-see to find out if you are in for future problems before its too late to fix them. Good luck!

Thanks for the information, Gedgal - that is interesting! My understanding is the antibodies tests are often done pre and post surgery when a person has thyroid cancer. I had hyperthyroid and was treated with radioactive iodine twice to render me medically hypothyroid. Now I take a T4 and a T3 drug and I have been stable for 25 years...

You can request those lab tests for ANY endo's blood draw. You just have to express to them that you want to check and make sure all is well with ALL your levels. But ask for a copy of the lab results and do your own homework because endos are notorious for not seeing a problem with high antibodies or rT3 levels. My endo even told me my adrenals were "fine" (his exact words) because I didn't have Cushings or Addison's, despite my low aldosterone and cortisol levels. That took ONE visit and ONE lab workup with a functional medicine doctor to get diagnosed. He asked me if I had ever been diagnosed with ortho-static hypotension (I have), I asked him what made my face turn purple (not red) during moderate exercise, and why I got so dizzy when bending over and then getting up again. He scheduled blood work to confirm what he already suggested, and as soon as we knew, we started treating the issue. That's why I love functional medicine doctors; they are worth the high fees, they care, and not only do I feel better, I am actually better!

Hi HCB, can I ask a silly question please? What do you mean by 'back in the blue on the idiot box'? Where I am from (New Zealand) idiot box means television. Thanks. Oh and good luck with the challenge.
