Corn is great. It works excellent into a healthy balanced diet. Don't be loading it up with too much butter and salt though. Shame to hate on corn.

Sorry to say, but most people with IBS have to avoid corn like the plague, not just corn products. In fact, I can get away with a small piece of corn bread, but an ear of corn will about kill me. It tastes so good though...

Cubs Mom, you're probably reading that it takes 2300 calories to maintain your current weight. To lose, you're going to want to take in less than that each day.

Fifi/Cubs mine is a bit weird too. Says for a loss of 1 lb per day I should be eating 2600 (based on my weight of course). But I think it's best to try to dial back from that number a bit. Keep measuring meals and weighing yourself, and you'll probably find an ideal goal number somewhere below the RDI recommended by the app.

@MCslimmer It's not the fact that this is public and people can post their own opinion, it's the fact that this is a community for people struggling to lose weight and gain weight. In cases like people trying to lose weight and gain weight, they need encouragement and motivation, not to be judged for what changes they've already made just because someone thinks it's not good enough. People ask why people aren't open about their struggles to lose/gain weight and this is probably a prime example of why.

@Nanaeda: On the other hand, those of us who have made mistakes feel we are being helpful when we know, from experience, something is going to hinder another's goal.

This American idea that "everyone is entitled to my opinion when I think I know better and am just trying to help" is awfully presumptive and might even be culturally insensitive. This user posts in Portuguese and didn't ask for help, yet here are people telling her in English what to do.

Really ... ? Everyone IS entitled to their own opinion. This is a public forum and we are encouraged to discuss the matters presented, be it a verbal topic or photos of food or whatever. Why do you think the person is posting their photos, if not to elicit discussion. Are you criticizing the commentators because we don't write in Portuguese or because we don't say what you think and feel? If someone responds that the picture is delicious, is that ok with you or not? (Because saying it looks good would be an opinion too.) An opinion is not a judgement to be taken as an insult. No one here is being abusive. I think would be a shame to discourage discussion over conflicting opinions.

I think some people may be posting their pictures because the FS app and administrators are encouraging them to do so as part of a new website project to begin to recognize food items from photos for eventual automatic logging from photos. (Note the discussion of FatSecret's new tech project, which you can reference in the "Blog" link at the bottom of this webpage in a web browser.) I think people may be posting their pictures for their own personal logs, as some users have actually previously stated in this forum. I think users from around the world are accessing this website via different platforms in different languages, which might not always be their primary languages, and they might not even all realize people are having a free-for-all over their photographed meals in the journal feed. I think you might not have read my comments very carefully. I never said anyone isn't entitled to have his or her own opinion. It's foisting dietary criticism/instruction on others about already consumed meals that is presumptuous. I neither said nor implied that it would be unkind to pay someone a compliment in any language or that people should be criticizing this user in Portuguese. I have no interest in you intuiting or saying what I think or feel and seek no such validation. Discussion is fine, just not in the context of dismissing/correcting someone else's personal dietary choices on her own personal journal post without an invitation to do so.

The over-cooked broccoli is what makes me sad about that plate.

seriously why all the hate on corn? also some people use this app to maintain, so their food isn't always going to center around weightloss.

That's a very healthy plate and is good for weight loss anyway. The calories on that plate is around 200 max.

I really enjoy the comments so much more than the pictures of people food.
