Celery does not technically have negative calories. According to what I have read, even with chewing and digestion, one spends only about 10% of the energy produced by the celery actually digesting it. However, if you take into account that your BMR is probably burning somewhere between 1 and 3 calories per minute, it only takes about 2-6 minutes at rest to burn off a stalk of celery. So, all in all, celery is a pretty solid food for using high volume, low caloric density as a weight loss strategy.
