Hey All - So, yesterday turned out another 10,000+ step day! Yeah! Food wise things are going along smoothly. I got a chance to go (unexpectedly) with my daughter to a 'Food Tasting' at her reception venue last night. (fiance was home sick in bed ;( We had a lot of fun, got lots of questions answered...and the food was awesome. Little bite sizes of appetizer selections, entrees, etc. I only tried one or two things - and we both skipped the 'cake tasting' ;) She basically said she would taste them when she went to her actual appt with the baker. So, no need to blow my week on something unnecessary. (I don't even much like cake...so wasn't that hard really.)

But what was hard was trying to figure out how to record. Speaking of which, I can't find an easy way to record here, and record food on Fitbit! So, for right now I am recording everything there..as I want to use the tools on that site to see what is working w/ what...and if this gizmo is actually producing any results!

well, the gizmo itself doesn't produce anything... but I want to look at if the increased daily activity, the caloric intake/vs burn, etc... produces an actual weight loss... I am going to give it the full 'college try' for 28 days (4 weeks.) If I have not actually produced any change that can truly be connected to this thing motivating me to move more... than I may likely send it back for a full refund.

I am typically an active person. I am still going to stay active. I am normally a tracker, and watch my foods carefully. So this thing just helps me to see the two connected in real time. Thruout the day it will update my steps, my activity, my calories in vs calories out, what more I have left in my 'calorie bank' etc... but if in the end, I don't actually have a 'metabolic system' that responds by producing the 'expected' weightloss... than this is pretty much all in vain.

Fun, but not worth $100 if it's not actually producing meaningful results for me.

So - this is a four week experiment of sorts. I have it set to produce a 500 calorie deficit / day ... between reduced calories and increased activity... which should by the end of the four weeks produce a 4 lb loss. We shall see...

Hope you guys are all well... have a wonderful day.

The wedding planning sounds exciting - glad you got to skip the cake tasting. Funny, I don't really care for cake either - but now a raspberry pie might actually tempt me.

Morning Paula, hope you get the results you want. In my experience weight loss doesn't always follow the calories in/calories out rule, think you've found that too. . As you say the Fitbit is fun but if it doesn't help in your weight loss journey, $100 is too much to pay for help with tracking which you do now anyway. Fingers cross for the next four weeks. You are doing so awesome. Bet its also fun to see what your connected friends are doing, I think you are connected to a couple of FS peeps through fitbit? Have an awesome day and an awesome week-end.

Oh forgot to say how fun that must have been, the taste testing. You also went shopping recently didn't you, for bridal stuff, mother of the bride dress I think. Did you find anything? Did your daughter get her dress yet? A VERY exciting year for you.

Thanks for your "experiment" - we'll all benefit (^_^). It must be nice to see the number of steps you take in a day, and it would encourage me to take a few more, I know. I've often wondered how many steps I average, even just doing chores around the house - going up and down the stairs, vacuuming, running errands. I'm not sure my metabolism is high enough for the calories in/out to work, but the exercise would be great. Congratulations on the 10,000 steps! You're the winner!

Yeah.. On 10,000 steps. I shall be interested in your experiment of calories in/out ratio. I have never 100% bought into this as my weight loss doesn't compute to the figures they quote ie 3500 deficit = 1 pound. I have realised this because I have set my RDI is about 300 - 400 a day less than they say it should, and at sedentary level, to loose a pound. Despite being lower than my set RDI and a lot lower than e recommended RDI, I loose no where near what I should. I am assuming the fitbit website, sets your RDI and you do not / can't amend it.

Planning a wedding is so much fun. I also have one coming up in October. Hope it goes well. Can you guesstimate and put it in as hidden carbs? I dug back out my fitbit and it is charging. It will be working again soon. Have a wonderful day. Are you getting this storm too? It's raining here right now and we're preparing the the temp. to drop. The horses will get extra food tonight.

Hi... just popped in to see how you were doing and sounds like you are doing well! The "tasting" with your daughter sounded like a lot of fun. Planning the wedding is exciting, isn't it? Congrats on getting 10000 steps in. That is a lot of movement. It should pay off. If not, send the FitBit back. LOL!

Hey everyone! First, I have learned that the calories in vs calories out doesn't work well for me...but since I am keeping it all lower carb, I figured no harm in tracking it all while seeing if there's a correlation to any loss! I used to think WOW! I am constantly on the go! But I found on my 'Go to the gym, home to do chores, typical day' - not so much! My steps generally will average around 7,000. But if I am consistently looking and pursuing my 10,000 steps per day... It forces me to get up and keep moving (or I just won't get there!) So I am hopeful, this extra boost of consistent energy being expended will help push me back into a loss. We'll see. The worst that can happen is I will have one heck of a busy January!!! And I sure do feel good while exercising or moving around alot.. so it's good for me, regardless of the outcome. - All the wedding plans are coming along.. just slow. It's hard to hit every detail. Hoping to make a decision about a dress by the end of this weekend. Will let you know once I decide. Right now I am torn between 'long' 'tea length' or 'knee'. It's on June 30th, outdoor wedding/indoor reception at 11 AM. Daughter's dress is quite formal and beautiful, and she has no female attendants. So 'Mom' will be the only one in photos, and his mom, besides her. I'm leaning towards long. What do you guys think?

You almost have me convinced to get myself a fitbit. I love the way it keeps you motivated. Thank you for sharing. Your right, if it works then its worth the money...hmmmmmmm. Really really thinking about it.... About the dress, I think you should get what your most comfortable in. They have beautiful short dresses as well as long. My thought is if you really like a long one and havent had a good reason to wear one then this is it. How often do we, at our age, get to dress up to the nines.

It sounds like a fun time. On the calories in/out. What you have to do is track them over a protracted period. I'd say several months. What you'd find then is that they add up pretty well.

Hi Paula, you going for it. I am just logging total cals at the end of the day, just for my graphs etc. I put in a calories only fav set at 1 serving = 100 cals. then at the end of the day I look at my FS food diary and put it into fitbit. I was doing each meal but there is no need, I just want totals to watch what happens and learn how many cals ACTUALLY need to burn, to loose a pound. You are doing so well! XX

Hi Paula, if you and the other mum are the only attendants, I would go for long. But with your great body now its a shame to cover it up! But long and elegant I would say is the way to go, but perhaps form fitting and showing a bit of skin - LOL - with a wrap for the church? Good hunting, it will be such a joy in your fab body - pictures of course please!
