I am starting the Slow Carb diet today. I am hoping to get 63 pounds off by 6 months. The diet states you lose 5 pounds a week. That would get my 63 pounds off in 3 months. If I lose half the weight in the time state, I will be happy. If I lose it as the diet states I will be excited!!!!!!!!!!!

slow and steady wins the race. 20 lbs in six months is awesome progress. I always set myself up for failure with too ambitious a weight goal.

Hi Milwinny, Not sure...do you mean Low Carb? Several here on this site have been able to drop 10 pounds per month. Thats ambitious but doable :) you can do it!

I've been doing keto since 10/24 and have lost 24.6 so far. I am fairly strict with my self under 20 net often under 10 net carbs. I sometimes do a carb refeed day. Last month I lost 10 lbs. I think the lbs come off easier the more you have to lose.

I like the idea of a slow/low carb diet. I think my cravings are worse when I try for less than 50 carbs per day.

I think the slow carb diet has to do with low glycemic foods instead of just low carb. and they have a cheat day once a week...

How does this "Slow Carb diet" work?

and good luck!!! I agree with the carb re-feedings, I do it once a week until I get to my target weight, but clean carbs not cookies etc..

Low carb started many years ago with the Atkins Diet. If you like meat, full fat and limited carbs daily, it really works. Google it. There is also a FB site call Low Carb Island I believe and manyothers.

I just realized Slow Carb vs. Low Carb. Never heard of it either Jana58.

I see there is practically no fruit in the diet, that would be tough for me. Can you drink infused lemon and ginger water?

I hadn't read about slow carb, so I looked it up. I'm interested to see how it goes for you, milwinny. Always open to new ideas.

keep in mind Tim Ferris (though I dig the guy a lot) markets his diet just like any other. Don't get discouraged if its not a solid 5 lbs a week, but it is a very reasonable diet and well thought out.

My son and his wife have been on the slow carb diet for over a year. they lost weight and toned very well on it. I tried it a little over a year ago but didn't fair well because I didn't realize there are traces of sugar in some of the seasonings I used. This time I have read very throroughly and seem to be doing better. I have lost 8.2 pounds since starting January 2. Slow carb is beans (like black beans), green vegetables (spinach, greens, peas, carrots, etc.) and protein (chicken, beef, pork, eggs). What is hard for me is no rice, potatoes, sugar, cheese, milk, and on and on. EXCEPT on cheat day. Do slow carb 6 days and eat anything on 1 day each week. Be sure your cheat day is at least after 5 slow carb days, I have 55 more pounds to my goal which is 11 weeks if I lose 5 each weak. I am going on my weight wathchers maintenance after I lose. I lost 50 pounds on weight watchers 13 years ago. I have had sevaral surgeries and needed something drastic to get it off. If this work I can live with weight watchers because I can eat anything any day, I just have to limit the amount. Thanks for the well wishes and support.

After you reach your goal, are you planning to make this slow card diet a lifestyle?

I love Atkins but am having trouble getting back on it. Find I do better with 60 carbs or so, usually in the form of citrus this time of year. There are some great milk substitutes but I would have problems with no cheeses (which are 0 carb for the most part). Also there are some great products out there to replace potatoes, rice, etc. Cauliflower is so versatile that way.

Slow Carb diet is not the same as the low carb diet. I plan to try to lose my weight on this diet and to maintain I will be going back to weight watchers for maintenance. I am in a water exercise class and I do theraputic exercises at home. I am going to add cycling to that. The slow carb diet allows you to eat beans, veggies and meats for six days and on cheat day anything you want. If I can get the rest of my weight off by June, I will be happy. Overjoyed if it comes off by the end of March as stated in the diet. I love to be able to eat what I want that is why I love weight watchers. You have to learn to eat a small slice of pie not the whole pie or 2 or 3 big pieces. Good luck to all of you whatever method you are using.

I started the slow carb diet on January 2. You are suppose to lose 5 pounds a week by eating a specific diet for 6 days and whatever you want 1 day per week. The diet consist of 4 meals of beans (lima, black, red, pinto, black eye peas, etc), green vegetables (greens, mix veggies, grean beans, broccoli, squash, etc) and meat/protein. The meals must be 4 hours a part and you can't miss meals. You only are suppose to need to do very little resistance exercise (5 to 10 minutes a day).I have lost 10 pounds in this four weeks and most of it was the first 2 weeks when I was sick and had to stay away from the Y because my exercise is an hour of water aerobics. It seems I have been losing and regaining the same 3 pounds or so the past 2 weeks. I am getting back on weight wathcers. starting Sunday, because I know it works for me. In 2004 I lost 47 pounds in 7 months on weight watchers. I can eat what I want but in moderation. I know I have to eat more vegetables than protein and starches and the sweets have to be minimal, but at least I can work them in more than just once a week and I will lose steady. I needed to lose 63 pounds and lost 10. February 4th I am rejoining weight watchers on line. I am staying on here because I will need all the moral support I can get. I went to meetings the last time but my schedule and the location makes that more difficult. This site is a good support group, so I will still be here.
