No exercise walking today...church commitment early this AM. One of the ladies arrived early, due to transportation, and nearly finished up the project single-handedly! By our start time, there was probably less than 5 minutes of work left for each of us. Very nice of her, but it was hardly worth the effort for me to get there. I could have used the extra sleep as we were rudely awakened at 4:20AM by the smoke alarm!!! Still not sure why, as everything was perfectly fine in all areas. Makes you wonder, though, and it was impossible to get back to sleep after that!

After the church "work," I headed out to the mall and a few other stops. All in all, a very disappointing trip, except for the Hallmark store. In the other places, they either didn't have what I was looking for or the holiday help was having such cashiering difficulties, that I gave up and left without making my purchases. I didn't stomp off in a huff, but just smiled as I left the line, put my things back, and left the stores.

I could really rant about how retail companies have all these programs, rewards, special discounts, and preferred customer cards, but then these poor holiday cashiers just don't have the experience to handle all these "extras" correctly. And this is on top of weekly, sometimes daily, sale prices and ads! Even worse, there's no supervisory help READILY available to help them out. I really feel sorry for those newer cashiers, as not everyone is going to patiently wait it out or calmly leave the store without buying. If it's this way at about 11 in the morning on a Friday, I can't imagine what's happening at prime times!!!

Once home, I colored my hair, had lunch, did the usual household chores, and am now about to get into some holiday wrapping. I have MUCH to do!!!

Have a good weekend, everyone!

Sandy - just scrolled thru your journals looking to see... what happened with your neighbors??? Were you able to find a delicate way to resolve this issue? I'm so glad you are doing well yourself! And I know just what you mean about the stores... so I am avoiding the inevitable! :) Much Love.

Neighbors are not an issue (yay!); it sort of resolved itself. Even though the guy's on oxygen, he drove them to the grocery store just 2 days after getting out of the hospital and stayed in the car while she shopped. I didn't know that when I decided to call and offer to take her one last time because I thought she might be waiting on me(per our previous conversation). I would have had a hard time living with myself if I had not called....I would have imagined them all huddled up, with no food in their house, waiting for me to call, etc. When I called, she said she thought I might have forgotten (so she WAS sort of expecting me to take her...) so her husband took them and is apparently cleared to drive....hard to believe, but that's what she said. The tone of our conversation was pleasant and upbeat. I doubt there will be any further requests, but if there are, I can now feel OK saying "no." Unfortunately for them, as long as the husband can drive, even in a limited way, there's no incentive to search out alternatives for the NEXT time he has a health crisis.

SAndy, there's no hope for some shopping ! too many people, too much stres doesn't make for a happy holiday shopping experience !

Sorry you had a bad day. And you could rant - or was that your rant? In any case, hope you get everything done and still keep your sanity.

Bren, I try to steer clear of retail on Saturdays even when it's not Christmas-time. But I'm afraid I may venture out tomorrow (oh no!!). Enjoy your weekend.

Notfast, it used to be I enjoyed the hustle and bustle of holiday shopping and considered every package a personal victory of sorts. Nowadays, not so much. Must be age and common sense creeping up on me....LOL!!

Buffy, I so rarely have a bad shopping experience, this was an oddity for me. Even bad help won't deter me from finding what I need...usually. And, yes, that was my mini-rant. Hope you had a fun party at work today.

What a busy day before 11am for you and I wasn't even out of bed lol.....wow I am impressed. Yep I agree I try to stay out of the shops on a Saturday........but I did my shopping early for the first time in my life, I am going to do it every year from now on the stores were fully stocked with all the good stuff all the sizes.....and not too many people....so a new experience for me.......but you had the patience and no rants.....good for you....that is hard to do....

Crazy shoppers, cashiers, long lines...yup, I hate that too! Glad you survived without losing your temper!!!

PS - It was really nice of you to put the stuff BACK, rather than just dump off somewhere in a pile, that must be the retail worker in you!

Sandy, I hear you about the hiring of these young people, training them for an hour, dropping them behind the register, and then disappearing. It happens all the time, and with the added load this time of year, these poor kids are overwhelmed. Glad you just put your stuff back and went about your way without losing your temper...I am sure others weren't so nice. Hope you had a great weekend!
