"Pick a small group of core foods and stick with them." Mahjohn posted that sometime last year, a tenet I was intuitively following, makes it so much easier when you know what's on your menu for the week and really cuts out a lot of impulse purchases at the grocery store. What's in your basket for the week? I've got a 12 pound bone-in pork shoulder roast, three deli trays of chicharrones, five cans of spinach, five avocados, five cans of sardines, and three poblano peppers. I'm sure I've over-shopped, but the sardines and spinach will keep.

i have ate basically the same thing everything since i have started my journey and still havent got "burned out" on it. Cottage cheese, avocado, boars head turkey or chicken breast and cheese. As a snack, i eat cauliflower. and on occasion, i eat almonds.

Man...fabulous idea Phil. I'm going to figure out my list too. I can get bored easily but if I change the list weekly....I won't get bored !!!!

It's easy to add or subtract from whatever rotation you're using. I like to keep it simple, typically some sort of roasted meat, or chicken wings, sausage, cold cuts, no overly-complicated recipes, of course you could always throw something elaborate in occasionally just to keep things lively.

This sounds like a good plan. Not sure I could get DH to agree. But I already fix things for him that I won't eat.

Oh, and I miss Mahjohn!!

My wife loves side dishes, and side dishes typically are full of starch and sugar. I'm more than happy with just the meat and maybe a side of vegetables, she likes potato salad, macaroni and cheese, sugary cole slaw, baked beans, and dinner rolls, and loves dessert, I decided I just couldn't do it anymore. It's funny, Draglist, I guess I just don't like variety. lol

I'm too much of a 'mood eater' to plan a week ahead. Heck, I can't even take something out of the freezer in the morning for dinner that night, because it's very likely that what sounds good in the AM won't be what I want in the PM. And, yeah...where did Mahjohn go? I've been wondering about him.

My wife is the same, trying to get her to plan meals is worse than going to the dentist. And she gets angry when I eat things she doesn't, suffice it to say she's been peeved off for over a year. So I cook all of my own food, she opts for take out, or chips and candy, here's the funny part, our daughter would rather eat what I've made most of the time. To the wife's credit, she does like salads which I'm alright with for the most part.

I miss him too. I go in clumps with food too although not low carb. I get tired of thinking about it and if I'm not searching out new foods, i don't get tempted with stuff i need to avoid.

I eat the same things over and over. Even when I'm off plan I gravitate toward the same "cheat" foods. I am a creature of habit....AND I miss mahjohn also. He helped me....

Every day... my food pyramid.. and I've yet to grow tired of it.... 3 hard boiled eggs, 2 string cheese, 1 handul of almonds (23 almonds)... These are my MUST HAVES every day. I find I have a difficult time when I don't have these throughout my day... I also keep in my food bag, 2 tablespoons of Peanut butter, 16 wheat thins.. and two dates or raisins...belvita crackers are there too but only if I REALLY need a sugar/carb fix...... Dinner is usually a roasted beef with a ton of peppers, onions, garlic... sometimes I add potato to the stew or baked... of course, once in a while I veer off the road for a bit.. make a burger instead.. make meatballs instead.. but for the most part.. this is the daily intake I've been happily living with and hopefully can continue...

One of the reasons I love chicken breast is that it can be fixed so many different ways, it doesn't feel like I'm eating the same thing all the time. A change in seasonings can make all the difference in the taste, without affecting the calories/carbs. And, Kes, I hear what you are saying about what sounds good in the AM is not what you want in the PM, but I find that if I have the menu pre-planned, it is often easier to just fix what I have planned than to think of something else. Sometimes that helps me keep to the plan when I might otherwise stray big time.

I'm glad you are back Phil. I missed you and like to hear about plans that work. I, too, miss Mahjohn. Maybe he's too busy doing competition?

Absolutely every week is different food for me, as about 5 years ago I decided to learn how to cook gourmet. Bought several cookbooks and have friends over every week so that I can try out my latest experiments. Tomorrow is Moroccan Roasted Lamb Shoulder with Onions, Chick Peas and Couscous (recipe from "Cook with Jamie (Oliver)") with a crunchy cucumber & carrot salad.

The only staple food you can always grab in my home is bananas. Everything else rotates on what is at the Farmer's Market.

I've got a copy of Jamie Oliver's "Naked Chef", along with about a dozen other celebrity chef cookbooks; Cat Cora, Mario Batali, Julia Child (Art of French Cooking I & II), John Besh, Rick Bayless, among others, but my favorite cookbooks, by far, are Fannie Farmer and Tony Notaro. I love to cook, don't know if I would call my style gourmet or not, but no one complains.

"Naked Chef" is a really good one - tons of recipes that call for fresh ingredients that are tuned in to meats, fresh herbs and ways to make veggies taste great. I have Mario B and Julia Child, too. And I never cut corners to make the recipes "diet." I'd rather just eat 1 meal a day, or make it a small portion. But I will check out FF & TN.
