Timg2500's Journal, 16 September 2016

UGH.. I absolutely love my boss's generosity, but MAN does he bring in some horrible food to the office. Wednesday is Krispy Kreme donuts (which I skip) and then today he brings in really good, but really bad Sausage egg and cheese sandwiches from a local gas station. Of course you don't want to be THAT GUY in the room that turns it down.. SO my 16:8 is shot for the day. Onwards.

Ask him to bring some fruits, vegetable mix and nuts instead.

I'm not sure what type WOE you are following, but perhaps you could eat just the sausage, egg and cheese, and skip the biscuit to cut down on the carbs. And maybe you could bring some fruit yourself to share so that everyone has a chance to eat a little healthier. You may find you are not the only one who is looking for an alternative.

Why don't you bring the treats? I am not sure what's wrong with being "that guy in the room that turns it down?" Being "that guy"= someone who isn't on a ton of meds because you aren't eating KK donuts and horrid gas station sandwichs. Don't let anyone or anything detour you from your goal. You shouldn't have to eat garbage to stay in anyone's good graces.

@all Thanks for the encouragement. A couple of the women in the office and I found ourselves talking about it and they're going to help me try to get him to add a few healthy things. I'm the new guy around here so their help will be pretty usefull. @Arabella66 I'm also the cheap guy in the room haha. He actually buys the treats / snacks on a company budget. You got me thinking though about offering to go pick them up, or do some sort of "it's Tim's day" and "it's _____ day" type deal. Might work. Thanks for keeping my head straight on focusing on the end goal too. Being off meds is a huge thing for me. I hate the idea of being "artificially alive".. (I get that some meds are life savers... it's just a personal feeling)

Offer to go pick them up and then you can have some control over the situation and NO one has to know your agenda. You get what you can eat and you get what they want....sounds like a win-win to me. Congratulations on being off the meds. Keep making those good food choices. Don't fall for these traps. Being that you're cheap you are probably happy that you are saving $$$ being off that poison=synthetic meds.

It is hard to turn down work place treats. Turn down most of them or cut them in half.

Wednesday is donut day here and they're great. I let them sit for 1/2 hour if they're not gone and there's something good left I will take 1/2. But only on days when I can't resist. Which is about 1 in 5. mini victory but that's a victory.

@JAYMAINE100 oh I definitely agree the Wednesday donuts are tough. We'll see how tomorrow goes! ha

nobody wants to be that guy, but the ones that do are probably fighting the battle of the bulge perhaps? anyhoooo......I guess I would try to say I've stuffed because I already ate at home because I was starving when I got up. It would be REALLY hard, but it's your health we are talking about. In your pic you look young. If I had to do it all over again, I'd do it differently because it is hard as hell trying to change my wicked ways now!!!! I may be 63, but I'm not giving up!!!!

Who wants sausage, egg and cheese sandwiches from a gas station? Regardless of what diet you are following no one should feel obligated to put this garbage into his/her body. This kind of food from a gas station isn't known for its high quality. I know the meat sure isn't. KK donuts are even worse. They are nothing but a high amount of sugar and carbs and will have your blood sugar on a rollercoaster ride. Don't do it.

Screw that. BE that guy! Show them how to be healthy!

@arabella66 thanks for the reminder on focusing what's right. Sometimes it can obviously be quite hard to look past that spur of the moment.

Hang in there and JUST SAY NO, THANK-YOU and bring your own food.

@Timg......I know what you're saying, but you just got to turn it down. Is your boss overweight? I am guessing he is and if he isn't he is probably unhealthy. I am sure you can make a better version of that gas station sandwich at home. At least you KNOW what's in it and can control what's in it. Hopefully you can influence your boss and co-workers to think more about their health if they see what you are doing and see you are dropping weight and looking good. Maybe you can even start a healthy choice Wednesday? Make or bake them some healthier version of a treat, bring it in and you just might convince someone to change. I got my husband to eat cauliflower crusted pizza and he LOVED it. Get in your kitchen and start experiementing. You don't want to be back on that poison...oh, I mean medicine, do you? You got this buddy. BTW: once you start eating more actual, homemade dishes made with fresh, whole foods you will NEVER want another gas station sandwich. Trust me.

Been holed up in my office since 6:15 and eating no donuts.. drinking lemon water to keep the stomach filled. Yeah.. he's an 85 yo pretty well as you described. Like I said.. I love the guy for his generosity and because his heart is truly behind doing something for the employees. The wife made some really interesting oatmeal muffins / cookies (the consistency is kind of a mix) and they were fantastic. Planning to eat one after lunch today.

85? WOW! That muffin/cookie doesn't sound bad and it is a better choice than the KK donut. She's probably healthier than her husband. LOL! It's great that he is generous, but your health is a priority.

She is! (I meant my wife haha... I write good english)

Oh, I thought you were talking about his wife. LOL! Sounds like she, your wife, makes decent choices. Follow her lead.
