DianneGardner's Journal, 21 July 2016

Great day at doc yesterday BP 116/74 ..Standing much lower 92/62. Kidneys doing well..GFR 59..which is high stage 3..almost normal..above 60 is considered normal for a woman of my vast age :) weighing 117. Going back to 2 meals a day..getting protein back around 27 a day, fat free vegan. Blood work essentially normal except for low normal potassium and low hemoglobin. What the hell..who needs red blood cells. Who knows what veggies have iron besides spinach?

Thanks for all support dear friends on FS. This is a caring site. Am going to register for the 15K in September here.

Kale is a great source of iron. I believe sweet potatoes have iron, but the body doesn't absorb it as efficiently since the iron is nonheme. I eat a lot of both :)

Beans are a good source, but you would have to watch the amount of protein. I love kale-apple smoothies. If the hgb is off a little I wouldn't worry too much.

Ok..I live on kale..fresh and I just wilt it for moments in microwave... I know ..hemoglobin not bad. Family prone to anemia..we are of Greek ancestry..Grandpa and Mama both had and have. Got to worry about something..it's my nature...;)

Happy for you Dianne.News of good health is always something to cheer for. Here in Tanzania people with anaemia, use juice made from rosella petals. (Others call it hibiscus or karkade .they are dried red petals and the juice is delicious. You just soak in water to get the juice.no blending)My mother uses this alot and also beetroot juice to get her haemoglobin up.She has kidney failure.
