Ms Elizabeth's Journal, 11 May 2016

I think my scale is broken. All week long it has been slowly creeping up. I've moved it, jumped on it, reweighed 10 or 15 times.. it didn't matter. It kept creeping up. I kind of expected it to creep up because it's the part of the month that makes me question why chocolate isn't a food group of it's own. This morning the furnace went out.. I weigh 202.9. Maybe the mercury in the scale froze. Granted it was still 68 degrees in the house but still.

I'm on day 5 of eliminating sugar from my diet. People say it gets easier over time. Those people are full of poop. If anything each day is worse than the previous day. Pfft.. easier over time my butt. I thought maybe it was the processed carbs in my diet so I eliminated them for the most part too. Now it's about 10 times worse because I'm drooling on the bun I can't eat and justifying I deserve the latte because I didn't eat the bun! Then again if I go to get the latte I will more than likely add the donut because when you get them together you get a discount. Yup. So.. no sugar, no processed carbs, no sanity, and yes completely uncomprehendable rants because um.. I think it's a withdrawl thing. Or maybe I'm just nuts.

So onward and downward and licking candy in the candy bowl still counts.. even if you put it back after you lick it.

Have to laugh at your posts! Maybe we're ALL nuts! Same thoughts go thru my head also. I've thought about just tasting, chewing, then spitting out ________ (fill in the blank with whatever). Does that still count if I don't actually swallow it????

Bite, chew, taste, then spit! Done that more times than I care to admit. :) Hang in there with eliminating the sugar, hopefully you will find it does get easier, at least with less craving. But then I could just be full of poop.

I'm working on cutting out refined sugars and simple carbs as well, so I know the feelings you are describing! For me, when I want something sweet, instead of going for the lifesavers or gum (which I had been for awhile) I have a Light & Fit yogurt-it has lots of flavor and holds me over for awhile. Think of something sweet like maybe a type of fruit (frozen blueberries feel like dessert for me!) will be a replacement for awhile until your cravings ease.

Sugar is the worst thing for me. I've done a good job eliminating it, but it overrides logic for me. If it's in the house, I will eat it until it's gone. I actually have to throw away a bag of Nestle semi-sweet morsels today because I tasted them, and unlike other brands with lower sugar, I can't limit myself to 8 chocolate chips when I'm having a craving. And they don't even taste good because they're too sweet!!! How messed up is that?

Cravings are harsh, but they do ease up after a while. Try eating an avocado, the fat will help you feel full.

Have you stopped using bleached flour (which is sugar, if you read what happens to flour after they bleach it), and switch to whole wheat when needed, you should stop the cravings. I haven't had pasta in over 3 months, potatoes seldom, wild rice/brown rice pilaf on one weekend night only, stick to salads, veggies and protein. I have whole grain oatmeal with blueberries most mornings for breakfast, one fruit a day as I am diabetic, and I never crave the sugar any more, just went away, pretty amazing, I am down 33 pounds, from 236 to 203.6 this morning. This app is a life saver. Oh, keep total carbs under 100, seriously, you wont crave it, hope this helps. Keep the faith in yourself. There are days the scale doesn't move, and goes up after the weekend with the rice and eating more protein, but come Tuesday morning, we are back down, and losing.

I've had cravings since my blowout weekend away. I'm going to be more constrained when I go on holiday (yes, honestly!) so I don't suffer as much in July. Best of luck with cracking the sugar and carb elimination. I find I get tripped up by (beer, pizza, wine, pasta, curry & rice) hidden sugars such as milk 😜

It takes at least 3 weeks to get used to no sugar, I have been there. A big hug :-)
