Pearson16's Journal, 05 February 2016

I am reaaaaaaaally struggling with eating well for the remainder of the day. My mind keeps thinking about getting take out, or fast food, etc. And I keep pulling my thoughts back to reality to remind myself that my body doesn't need that junk right now. It's really annoying when you have to constantly battle your own thoughts!

Are you hungry or is it cravings?

It's cravings. I mean I normally have a snack around this time but my stomach isn't rumbling or anything.

Yea, cravings suck. Habits die hard. Sometimes in the beginning we have to just tell those "voices" to shut the heck up! When I first started my journey last year I found myself going to bed REAL early just so I wouldn't eat!

I saw a phrase at Christmas that I latched onto (can be modified): You've come too far to let a cookie boss you around...

@rckc - How funny, last night I did just that! I was, indeed, tired. But I don't normally go to sleep around 10:30 but I thought to myself it was the safer choice and my body could use the rest, anyway. @newnormal - Love the phrase! It's funny but very true - though I've just started this journey again (as of yesterday), I still don't need to let some dang cookie boss me around! Lol.

I weigh in just about every day, so I can see the upticks from when I cheat, and I can also see how long it took to undo them, right there in numbers in front of me. Helps me to ask "Is this worth adding 3 days to the fight to get where I want to be, just to undo the damage of this one bad choice?" Sometimes the answer is yes, and I'll pay the price gladly. But most of the time, putting the consequence in real terms like that gets rid of the temptation.

That is so true! What we gain in one day takes 3 or more days to get rid off.

I go back and forth between weighing daily and then choosing to weigh in only on Fridays. I do find that weighing daily helps keep me accountable, however, it can get a little obsessive and can work against me if I see that I'm holding on to weight when I'm doing everything right. In either case for now I was planning to weigh in daily so I hope it will help me stay on track.

This was me yesterday. I ate two avocados for dinner. Seems I was missing some potassium and feeling blah and discouraged which made me crave the cheat. I'm much better today

When I am like that I usually need more fat like avocado or salmon. Sometimes a sweet potatoes with coconut oil on it. Hang in there! Sounds like you body is lacking something, good fat, protein or a good carb.

Fast food doesn't have to be an abomination and learning to make better choices, even off the fast food menu should be on your list of things to master. My wife eats a ton of garbage; fast food, junk food, processed everything and I've gotten good at navigating fast food situations without getting into too much trouble. if you've got access to a decent taqueria they've usually got excellent guacamole, get you a pint and chow down.

Just because your stomach isn't rumbling doesn't mean that you shouldn't eat. Fuel your body before you get to the rumbling sound in your belly. Try eating every 2.5 to 3 hours. In between meals, try snacking, such as having some nuts(in moderation) or fruit. This may help with the cravings. I hope this helps :)
