Missychick21's Journal, 06 September 2011

I pretty much survived Faith's first day of school. It was probably only because my boyfriend loves me so much and was willing to walk her to school with me and stayed with me and we picked her up together. We don't live together but he came over early this morning to go with me :) I cried like a baby but at least with him being here I didn't have a total breakdown. She cried when I left the classroom but I think for the most part she had an ok day... I still need to get time with her teacher to talk about a lot of different things. Hopefully sooner rather than later...

When I told her I was leaving she just said "Ok, goodbye" *sigh* How easily she let me go lol. I did ask the teacher to see if she even eats at school today because of the menu I don't know if she will eat ANY of it...

Free free, set them free. If you love someone, set them free. I know you're talking about a small child here, but really you have to let them become part of the world at large without you if they are to survive. She will be stronger if you let her stand up on her own. And she will always need her mom. Always.

I know, I just worry about the disability part. I asked the teacher if she ate yesterday and she said she didn't know. She was majorly complaining about being hungry after school and she eats at 11 and I pick her up at 12... I think all she ate was some baby carrots...I don't know about breakfast because it is so hard for her to tell me things...

Missychick21, I am a retired teacher and principal and believe me children do much better than Mommies when it time to go to school for the first time. I have carried many a tissue in my pocket for Mommy tears on that first day. Her eagerness to start a new adventure is great...you have prepared her well to do this...YAY, Mommy!!! I am sure that her teacher will be calling you or arranging a conference after a couple of weeks. She will have a good handle on Faith's progress and needs and you will be surprised at what the teacher has gleaned. Of course, if there are special needs, the teacher needs to be informed so that she can make accomodations for Faith's success. Relax and enjoy every moment of her new adventure with her...you have many more wonderful firsts to share. They are certainly a gift from God and how we have been blessed by them. Gwen

Thanks Gwen :) I have a meeting with the ESD tomorrow but they will only be in the classroom twice a month, so I am hoping the teacher takes the time to accommodate for her. We are supposed to have a home visit soon and I hope it's really soon so we have the time and privacy to discuss all of Faith's major needs and her difficulties. I am really glad she didn't cry when I left today, I really hate seeing her in tears. Unfortunately it happens often especially when she gets frustrated with herself for not being able to do something the right way (i.e. writing her letters or drawing shapes). I hope she will learn to be patient with herself and not get so mad at herself...
