Kathy Vanish's Journal, 22 January 2016

I don't know how to describe this week. Yesterday is the only day so far that I stayed on target and that only because I have reached the end of my rope. Everyone says you have to make a lifestyle change yet all of the changes I need to make to lose weight are so unappealing that I have a hard time sticking with it and then when I do fall of the wagon it's months before I reach the fed up point again and then I am angry for weeks because I have to give up the stuff I love the most. Also, veggies may be good for you, but the side effects can be awfully painful and embarrassing.

Maybe this would be easier with a support system, but since I don't have that I guess I will just have to get stronger. As my husband said today, we are both loners and maybe that is why we get along so well. We can work side by side for a common goal, but still do our own thing. Sometimes though it would be nice to have a girl friend to just shoot the bull with, complain with, hang with ect. It's hard always having to be one of the guys, but that is what I have and I can't say I am unhappy.

Well, I am going to go get an extra run in for the week but also run off some of my anger. I had to go on-site today 3 hours in the car and they didn't wait for my input and just did it anyway. What a waste of my time. Only consolation is I get paid while I am in the car and I will get a good workout as I run faster when I am pissed off.

I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend. If you are getting the snowstorm, I envy you. I would love a few feet.

Glad you came here. I am no veggie fan either. Low carb has stopped my cravings for cookies and cream of wheat (my so missed comfort food) otherwise I would still be over 200 lbs. We only get today once, remember to smile, often.

Hi Kathy. You're creating your own support system by coming here. And you're right it IS hard, especially if you feel you're alone. Thus --run fast, eat well, and vent here :)

Ok, so maybe you have problems with some veggies (broccoli is difficult for some), but this is your opportunity to experiment. Also, try fresh fruit. It's sweet, has lots of water and fiber to fill you up and it's easy to grab & go. I know that pizza tastes great for dinner, but so does a hot bowl of chicken soup in these chilly times. Try thinking of it as substitutions and not deprivation.

Good advice, Soonsoonsoon!! This week I am trying the fruit by cutting up pears, apples, oranges into bite size pieces and storing them in little cups to snack on, instead of my cookies & ice cream that I love. Got some soup too! Hope it works!!

Kathy, You and I have been buddies on here for a long time. Yes, we've both taken breaks, but we always end up back here on FS. It works, even when we hate to admit it. Keep coming back, you may not have your girlfriends down the street, but we're here online. Now, I looked through a few of your food journals and see you have stopped eating breakfast. Get back to having some protein early in the morning to give you the energy you need to get through the day. If it's a time issue, hard boil a bunch of eggs and then grab one on your way out the door. Coffee alone will not give you the nutrients you need. I know, I used to do the exact same thing. Make this one change for the next week and see what happens. Don't try to change everything all at once. That's how we set ourselves up for frustration and failure. You've already made the change of getting back here, now add protein in the morning. I'm here for you. We can support each other again. Lord knows we've done it before!

Beano will help. Because we should all aim for lifestyle changes so the "dieting " can stop, we need to do it slowly. Taking it off slowly happens when we make small changes that we can live with then move on to the next.i think we all have a tendency not to recognize and give ourselves credit for the small wins. I'm trying to break my weaknesses into small increments and try to overcome them one at a time. I'm 53 and this is not my first trip to this rodeo!!! I refuse to be on a "diet" when I'm 70!!!! 😳
