Annabelle3117's Journal, 22 July 2015

Good morning! Well I drug my unhappy ass to the gym and did 35 minutes at moderate intensity on the elliptical yesterday. My heart rate was about maxed at 175, and I worked up quite a good sweat. I actually did feel better afterwards, my only complaint is that I don't always get full credit on the steps because in full body mode it rotates between three different movements and sometimes your arms are stationary. Ah well.

So I spent two weeks studying lab values for our quiz yesterday. I studied the normal ranges, and disorders where those specific values may be higher or lower than normal... for over twenty different labs. Annnnnnnd, the quiz was on vocab!! lol I actually laughed when I saw the quiz. Vocab is no match for me, I never study vocab. Ah well, I guess I'm super prepared for the upcoming test now aren't I!

Lots to do today, and all I want to do is lounge! Flower beds need weeded, steps need to be taken, groceries need to be bought, laundry needs to be washed. It's never ending. Going to work on prioritizing that list and get to it. No progress was ever made sitting around thinking about what needs to be done.

Goal today is the same as every other day, stay within my RDI and get as many steps as possible in. Have a great day buddies!

Awesome Yolanda. I have a question for you if my resting HR is 45-52 and then in most of my high cardio workouts it gets to about 150-160 should I try and get more intensity out of it and push harder?

Thanks guys! Rockiesfan, Are you on any heart medications that could be keeping your pulse low? If not then that's pretty remarkable, you must be in really excellent cardiovascular shape! I don't recommend pushing harder to increase your heart rate. The more fit we become the stronger your heart gets, and the stronger it is the more blood it can push through per beat. So, if your heart is in really great shape you won't have such high HR readings, because it can pump more blood more effectively. When I first started it was nothing for me to see 190-200 bpm during a cardio workout, now 170's only happens when I'm really pushing hard. So, I'm improving :) Also, max heart rate decreases as we age, so don't shoot for a target HR range. If you're working hard and breaking a sweat then you are getting a really awesome cardio workout.
