you gotta try other ways of gauging your success! like if you've lost inches, or if your clothes fit looser, or if you have more energy. stuff like that!

Choose a piece of clothing that is to tight and make that your goal instead of the scales. I'm lucky that most of the time I'm gone all week and so I can only weigh once if we get home but if we don't then i wonder all week but weighting on a different set of scales is a true downer for me so i wait,\.

I want to be sympathetic...I really, really do....but the "devil" in me is tempting me to comment: " If you REALLY want that scale broken, I suspect your husband would be GLAD to oblige"...lol....On a serious note...In the same way our food counselors tell us to "pretend" that our favorite fast food places just NO LONGER EXIST....well, for YOU...you need to pick the ONE day a week you want to weigh and JUST tell yourself ....It IS broken the other 6 days....Cognitive Behavioral Therapy!!!! :)

Bubbleyumm, don't let the scale define who you are or what kind of day you're going to have. I know its gonna be hard but please try to break free from the hold that thing has on you. Good luck!

Maybe you need to adjust your expectations when weighing daily? Weight (fat, water, etc...) fluctuates a lot based on what you eat. Your body water retention can cause a steeper daily gain/loss then fat.
If you do weigh everyday, maybe use that as a sum of what you did yesterday? Use it as a moment to analyze the food you ate, your macro-nutrients (carb, fat, protein) percentages and make small adjustments to fine tune your eating to get the results you're looking for. This maybe too scientific (metabo-hacking) for some and that the optimal thing to do is weigh in once per week.
Another option is to weigh yourself everyday and keep a running 7 day average *KNOWNING* that it is the average that counts and not the daily number?
In full disclosure I weigh everyday because it is important that I keep weight loss as the foremost thing on my mind. Up/Down, it doesn't matter. If I plateau or gain over a 2 weeks stretch I use my food journal to figure out what I changed, did different, etc.. I've got 2 week periods where I DID lose; I look back at those to see what's different. It's how I start my day now. It's what keeps me focused throughout the whole day.

Try this: Get on scale as often as you want. But only record the reading once or twice a month here in FS. Now you can give in to the addiction (just ignore the results) and still get an accurate picture how your diet plan is going month by month.
The daily snapshot is worthless, the monthly results over a period of time are what is important.

I agree with Glaun - just becuase you weigh it means nothing, Post it here every couple weeks - and you have to remember fluctuations are totally normal. We go down some, up a little, down some, up a little, and then finally a down that stays down. And then, we do the cycle all over again. Look for a downward trend overall.

Ok I have no idea what I really typed thanks to stupid autocorrect. No batteries in mine. I understand the obsession but you have to work past it. I'm not really losing right now but my thighs, yes THIGHS, and unfortunately boobs are shrinking and I'm building muscle and stamina.

The other best advice is to use a measuring tape or a pair pf pants so you can see the inches lost!

I especially like Tonya's and HCB's ideas.

Hm. I weigh everyday so that I know what the menu the day before did to me. If I lost, I repeat. If I gained, then I tweak. I don't think it is an addiction- I'm just gaining data. I plateau a lot, but I don't beat myself up about it. It's better than being the weight I was a couple of months ago. :)

^^^But I will say that loose jeans are far more fun than the number on the scale. Everything in moderation!

I don't see the problem. I weigh myself every day. I want to see the good, bad and the ugly.

Atkins says to weigh daily and I do. But there is no compulsion to step on the scale at any other time...l log it and forget about it. Think I'm hearing that you feel a need to weigh throughout the day. Weight loss is a tricky thing and can become addicting like anything else. So glad you became aware of it, that's always the first step. (went through this years ago...happy to talk about it if you feel like messaging me)

Don't worry so much about what you weigh throughout the day! Weighing more than once a day won't help you reach your goal any faster, and on top of that, worry/stress can cause weight gain by itself! Don't let your anxieties about losing weight take over your need to feel happy and be yourself! Eat right and get some activity done, you should be okay! You're almost 20 pounds lighter than when you first weighed in here! You're doing really well! :)
