Believe it or not,this is not my photograph, but one of my beloved dog Mitzi. And of course my name is not Glaun, but Phil and my photo is somewhere else on my Fatsecret page. The name Glaun is my computer Gaming name. For those of you who game, I am most fond of MMRPG games and usually play them multi boxed.

I have been retired for 15 years now. My last job (if you want to call it that, really it was a 5 year extended vacation) was as a ski instructor in Park City UT. I met my current bride there and now live in Carefree AZ. Yes, the life style here is all in the name of our town.

I have three adult children, two grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

My wife and I live by ourselves (plus critters) and love to travel. I have lived in several countries around the world and have traveled a lot. My primary loves in life are travel, Skiing, Scuba, and Flying. When forced to work, my primary vocation was law.

For 20 years, I was very lean and worked out daily at the gym. After I married this last time I did the typical retired thing, ate, slept and sat in my chair. I put on 30 pounds and got into terrible physical shape.

A couple of years ago we went to Kathmandu, Nepal to climb the Hillary trail part way up to Everest base camp. That almost did me in. I then realized how bad a shape I was in. My wife came to me and said she was concerned about the shape I was in. So she made me an offer I couldn't refuse. Get back to the weight and shape I was in when we first met and she would take me to Palau for a week of diving.

That is when I joined FS. As you can see, it has been slow and steady for me. 1/2 to 1 pound a week. I figure with my new diet and exercise program I will reach my goal of 193 lbs by December, 2013. (I am 74 inches tall)

So there you have it. I am glad to be in the company of so many who have the same goals as I. Good luck to us and as I read somewhere, "God bless us, everyone".

Second month, only 1 lb lost

You do have a really difficult work situation to diet in. I am going to list some possible solutions, but these are not based on expert opinion, or knowledge. Just my observations of what worked for me, they might not suit you.
1)First of all, we are all trying to help each other get to our goals. Most of us realize that we have to go to any length to lose weight. Try not to be defensive when comments are offered. It's just because we are there also and trying to help.
2)Restaurant eating: Make the restaurant work for you, you are paying for it. If you get salad, then order vinegar and oil on the side. Don't let them put that white goo with strange chunks in it called blue cheese dressing on it. If you order a dinner, don't let them add fry's, gravy, butter on vegetables and all those other tricks the fat chief will pull to make you look like him. No rolls, crackers with the lard called butter. You know the drill. Remember, the restaurant is trying to make you fat, you have to stand up to them and control calories. And if you are still hungry, order a second side of green, no lard vegetables.
3 No oils, dairy, or sugar (or corn sugar,etc)
4 Fast food places. No bread coatings, nothing that has been deep fried. Can't buy non fried chicken? peel off the skin.
You get the drill. Make the road life work for you. And the next time I pass you I will waive.

Welcome to FS and good luck.
ALSO: it is generally accepted that you cannot spot reduce fat. That is, remove fat from just one area of the body. Exercise and reducing calories will greatly help reduce the fat in the body, but any loss is overall, not local. This is contrary to what is advertised in the "lose your arm/leg/thigh/belly fat" commercials.

It will be hard work. If you work at your diet and exercise and you are absolutely fixed on sticking with it you can lose 1 pound per week. However to lose 2 pounds for a week becomes virtually impossible unless you can live with the hunger and routine over the next 11 months. Some have done it, but darn few. What I am saying is go for the qo pound per week loss. You won't lose hope and quit. It will be possible and doable.
