mgrill's Journal, 16 April 2015

My office is notorious for being the one that will have sweets around as a treat for the staff. Now that I've taken over as their supervisor, they have seen the candy dish replaced with fruit. I've also started bringing in breakfast bars and other "more nutritious" snack options for them. They see that I care about their health and they see my philosophy about fitness as I leave for the gym on my lunch hour.

It's been a challenging couple of months, but I'm starting to settle in to my new role.

Do they see that you care, or do they think that you're trying to steal all of their happiness? lol I'm glad that you're settling in, it was a long transition period for you and you stayed on point through all of it. You've done great :)

Good for you, I know we have a luncheon today and just wondering what kind of junk will be there

I work in an office with nurses and several support staff. I am the manager. I have a bowl on my desk that stays full with Dove chocolates. If it ever gets empty, I get emails and texts that the bowl needs refilled. I, however, do not eat the candy. It does not even tempt me.

Thanks all...I'm just trying to be supportive of my staff. Yo - I think they do see it in that I care. During the last bit of winter (& flu season) we often joked that I was trying to keep them healthy because I needed them to be at work and not home sick. Now they are starting to get creative with me; one gal said she thought about asking me for an extended lunch if she used it to go for a walk...yep, they are learning how to appeal. [And I told her that YES that would be a good negotiation tactic with me!]
