Success at last Skyping with my daughter and grandsons. Buying a new computer was totally worth it! It's so lightweight, I could walk around with it. My grandson wanted to say hi to our dogs, which was really sweet. Unfortunately, that made him sad and he kept saying, "I want to go there and see them all!" It broke my heart!

By the end of the conversation, though, he was being natural and just sharing neat things with me. He ended the conversation with an "I love you, Grammie Gillian!" and a big smooch. Just what I needed! I can't wait until he receives the special book I bought him on my trip back East. I bought a second one for me and he is excited about reading the book together on Skype.

Hi Gillian. Glad to hear the computer is up & serving you well. I did Skype reading with my nephew a couple years ago. At first it was "work" b/c he had learning difficulties that they were trying to figure out. But then it became a special treat b/w the two of us. Aren't we lucky? To live in such an age.... Take care.

Thanks, all! My heart is bursting. Today my daughter sent me a picture of my grandson ready to leave for his first day of preschool. He just looked too grown up! Yes, we are lucky to live in an age where we can interact like this. I remember how sad I was when I moved 3,000 miles away from my grandmother. Phone calls were so expensive that I only talked on the phone with her once in a great while. I looked forward to receiving letters from her, though. I plan to send my grandsons letters with drawings or little treats inside.

Aww....wonderful post. So happy for you that you got to Skype with your family. We all know it is very important for grandparents to keep in touch with their grandchildren as much as we can. Thanks for sharing!
