DairyKing's Journal, 09 September 2014

Good Morning, FS Warriors! Well, woke up to the bleating of the alarm at 3:30 this morning. Picked my phone up and checked weather.com, 65 degrees, and thunderstorms since 2 AM. Looked out the window; calm and cloudy, but no rain. OK, the weather gods are trying to screw with me. I put on my new North Face Torpedo running jacket that's supposed to be wind proof and water repellent - because I just know I'm going to get a couple miles out and it's going to pour. 4 miles later, no rain, and I'm wet, but not from the rain. I feed and play with the lab a little, and ten minutes later, the thunder is booming, the lightning is lighting up the sky, and it's a gully washer! Am I lucky? Am I unlucky? I have no idea. It seems my life clock is about a half hour fast or something. Anyway, it rained torrents all the way to work.
I went to the council meeting last night. The guy that asked me to serve on the board wasn't there. His doctor advised him to resign, said he wasn't healthy enough to handle the stress. Stress? This isn't supposed to be stressful; it's a Trustee job. The meeting progressed just like any other council meeting, and at the end, the Mayor again asked if there was any more new business. It seemed that they had forgotten all about filling the vacant board positions. Then the Mayor inquired about the trustee vacancies, and one of the board members said that this here fellow, namely me, seemed to be an upstanding member of the community, takes good care of his property, and is even here taking notes tonight; I don't see why we don't just swear him in right now? Haha. The Major said, "Are you still interested in serving on the board?" I said that when the other member invited me to serve, he didn't tell me he wasn't going to be here anymore. They just laughed. The Mayor asked if they wanted to table the decision until they thought about it, and they all agreed that there really wasn't anything to think about; we need someone in case one of us isn't here, to carry a quorum, and this guy fits the bill, so let's swear at him. And the rest is history; they swore me in. They even gave me a paycheck for the night; and I thought it was a volunteer position. What do ya know! Now I can buy that yacht I've always wanted.
Well, I didn't have Shanghai rice last night. Got back from the council meeting and DW had fixed a big chef salad with a couple kinds of lettuce, black olives, cucumbers, tomatoes, onions, carrots, radishes, hard boiled eggs, crumbled bleu cheese, and a couple dallops of ham salad on top.I'll probably think of other ingredients after I save this journal entry. I tasted it, and with the crumbled bleu cheese on it, it didn't even need any salad dressing, so I didn't put any on it. I could only eat a bit more than half, the rest is in my lunch today. I'm sure the ham salad and crumbled bleu cheese gave it some calories, but since that's all I ate - no snacking - I think I'm OK.
All in all, a pretty good day. My hips were a little stiff when I would get up from a chair yesterday, but the run went well this morning, and I don't feel any worse for wear now. And oh yeah, my RDI was 2300, so I went in and recalculated it, and it came out to 2700, so I went in and changed it to 2000. See how this works? LOL! Here's hoping all my FS Buddies have a wonderful day today! Toodles!

Sounds like a great day! And a great salad, too! Upstanding member of the community? I am not sure about that.... :)

Well congratulations, DK. The community couldn't be luckier! Salad sounds scrumptious. Love the RDI shenanigans.

Yeah, I'm not sure what upstanding member of the community is either - except they haven't hauled me away in handcuffs for anything. Maybe they just want someone to keep an eye on the place at 3:30 in the morning, since I can run from one end of the town to another almost every morning. That would at least allow the Sheriff's deputy an extra hour of sleep in his car. Maybe they want to know what all the dogs are fussing about that early, and they don't know that it's me waking them up. You just never know. :)

Congratultions on the council seat! Almost too easy? Suspicious :) You will do great! You will be a major asset. Salad sounds great! Almost makes me want to have one. Good luck with logging all the ingredients. That is one of my reasons to keep my food simple. Takes so long to log so many items. Not that I'm lazy or anything..... :)

Yeah, Kattay, that's the way I feel about Oriental buffets. I'll be doing so good at logging my food and then go to an Oriental Buffet. How the hell do I know what's in that stuff? Haha! I give up. I just keep hitting the reboot button and starting again. After 3 years on here, I pretty well know when I'm overindulging. And I log my exercise in about 3 different places. I guess what I'm really on here for is the comaraderie, and both giving and receiving support - as well as an opportunity to tease someone now and then, not that I would ever do that. :D

So you're on the board with a check too? let the corrupting commence, LOL. You are going to be everyone's best friend and worst enemy all in the same night. Stock up on Vodka so you can get the votes you want :-)

I know, Bella. It's almost as much per hour as I make in my present job. Unfortunately, it's only 1 hour a month. LOL! Oh wait, maybe I'm supposed to do something 'during' the month. Never thought of that. Seriously though, these guys (gals included) seem pretty laid back. I think it's going to be fairly fun. At least, we did quite a bit of talking and joking around after the meeting last night. I'm just going to focus on the positive for now; I have no political agenda or ambition.

Buffets are a problem. Easier when you pick one item from the menu, say Orange Chicken. Under FS Restaurants I just pick an Asian restaurant that has orange chicken. Mark one servings, or two:) Mounts up when you pick two or three entrees from a buffet!! :) In a pinch, I will just type in the dish, like Eggplant Parmesan, and FS will show a bunch, especially frozen food. I pick one and key in servings. Nitty gritty food logging, no, just gets the job done. Betting most everyone here does that but I thought I would put it out there anyway. Being positive is always a step in the right direction! ((Hugs))

Yep, Kattay, I pretty much got to doing that too, and then I pick the one with the least amount of calories. LOL! To be quite honest, anymore I'm more concerned with the sodium, protein and carb ratios than the calories. I know when I've overdone it on the calories, but the sodium is such a crap shoot when you eat out. I don't know if all the running I do balances it all out, because I sweat like a banshee, or not. I know the prepackaged stuff and the soups are loaded.

I agree with you. Sodium is a big thing when eating out. I am more into the ratios than the calories. Really easy to stay under my RDI since giving up, for the most part, grains. Sometimes it is a chore trying to get enough calories. Except when I hit the nuts and nut butters. Can't be perfect.
