NON SCALE VICTORIES

For the next 12 weeks I will NOT be weighing in as I joined a challenge that has this as one of the requirements. When I was invited to join it I thought: "GREAT!Exactly what I need to kick me back into gear!" I believe *completely* that with focus on *doing* what is required, results anticipated *will* AUTOMATICALLY follow that course, so to NOT weigh in didn't seem to be an issue for me. I actually liked the thought of using the 12 weeks of no weigh-ins as "training for maintenance",meaning when I reach my ideal target weight & have successfully maintained it for, say, half a yr or so, I wont be using the scale anymore. Then when this weeks weigh-in started approaching I FREAKED!
"I *need* the scale! It helps me stay motivated, regardless of its number displayed. When its UP, it is a motivator for me to be more mindful at being diligent, in making sure I *really am* DOING what I should be doing. And when it goes DOWN, it is a motivator to KEEP DOING, what I obviously am doing, to make it go down. BUT...not weighing...the motivation will *disappear*!" I instantly thought of all the reasons why I should NOT continue the challenge.(Read my Journal- WHAT I LEARNED FROM THIS WEEKS CHALLENGE)
Happily I am a person who lets "my yes, mean yes" & I managed to regain my senses.

WHAT I LEARNED FROM FREAKING OUT

I realize that I am not as healthy as I want to be. I realize that I am not the size or shape I want to be. However, these things can be changed, to what I want them to be, by what *I* do or dont do. This is not "news".
What I do or don't do can be changed by what *I* THINK.This, too,is not "news".
What IS "news",is that *I* THINK,*I* NEED,a number,up or down, to MOTIVATE me! WOW!!! THAT is not good.
What happens,to my motivation, when I have successfully lost my excess weight & instead of having a body laden with fat I have a strong, toned, muscular body?! Muscle weighs MORE than fat.
It was obvious to me that my mind was playing tricks on me,which caused me to freak out,so *I* took control(which I *always* had) & changed my wrong thinking (that I need the scale for motivation)QUICKLY to right thinking...

I end this Journal Entry with some words from James Allen:
"A man only begins to be a man when he *ceases to whine & revile*,& commences to search for the hidden justice which regulates his life.
And as he *adapts his mind* to that regulating factor,he ceases to accuse others as the cause of his condition & builds himself up in *strong & noble thoughts*,ceases to kick against circumstances, but begins to *use them as aids of his more rapid progress*,& as means of discovering the hidden powers & possibilities within himself."

Wonderful journal TIC. I had to recognize my dependency on the scale as well. It’s not like sugar, I can avoid the scale but it crosses my mind a lot because it was a part of my daily ritual. And you are so right, what happens when you are at your fittest but the number on the scale does not register that change? I’m not anywhere near my fittest level but I want at some point be comfortable with any number that is on the scale. This challenge is great practice. Best wishes to your continued success.

Love this journal. Spent the weekend repeating to myself 'you cannot control the situation around you, you can only control how you react to it'. Kind of the same thing but a good reminder of letting peripherals go and taking care of yours truly.

Thanks BELLA,will be doing a lot more of this,Im afraid, this month. Changes in household arrangements are being put in effect with the end results aimed at my target. So all in all,my eating, exercising & studying plans pertaining to weight loss goals are looking slightly askew but when all things are taken into account,Im doing quite well. :D
