Still stuffy, but feeling a LOT better! Stopped taking anything right now. I can breathe easier without it constantly running...or all stopped up... it's kinda in the middle at the moment. Peppermint tea helped a lot! (as did the Claritin D)

Funny thing happened on the way to the Medicine Cabinet yesterday... lying on the couch feeling all yucky and thinking something has to work...(this was before I took the Claritin D)... when I got up to walk out to the kitchen to look at the med choices again!!! I spied a candy dish inside a curio cabinet that still had chocolates in it from Christmas. OH MY!!! I was immediately hit with cravings. Thoughts of devouring that entire dish. Making love to this chocolate, savoring every last little lick ! That's terrible isn't it? I just simply couldn't stop thinking about it. It's as if the thought went in...turned on my brain's memory of this item...and then BAM...stuck in this thought pattern. Here's the funny part...as much as I couldn't stop thinking about it, ...opened the cabinet, held them in my hand...gave myself every reason under the sun to provide myself permission to engage... then I tried to smell them. Nothing. Oh yeah, my head was all stuffy. No sense in trying to complete this love fest if I couldn't even smell them... (never realized just how important smell was to my appetite) because it was the defining moment. Put them back...and haven't thought of them sense. (til now.) But now, I don't feel the cravings for them...just a knowing they exist. Don't want them anymore.

It's weird, I just remembered how out of whack my Dad's system would get when he was sick (any kind of sick) ... it would throw off his Diabetes, his insulin, his blood sugar numbers, etc... Wonder what goes on in the body when we are attacked by a virus, or a bug or whatever... do our own defense mechanicisms kick in and does that include something to do w/ blood sugars and insulin?

Perhaps will do some reading today...

Anyway, just thought I would share that...Much Love.

Paula, smell is a funny thing! Do you know you can buy diet patches that smell of chocolate or even vanilla and you are meant to sniff them to put you off your cravings! I hear they work well but then again nothing smells quiet the same as real chocolate! Lol it's some thing about getting sick of the smell it self so I was told!

I don't know Leeann, sounds like it would trigger..? Paula, it really is funny how much of our food cravings are driven by our sense of smell...maybe I need to just go around Holding My Nose..:) Have a wonderful day...glad you are on the mend, try to stay in and avoid those frigid temps.

Raven, I smelt the chocolate one once that my friend was wearing and I can tell you one thing! It smelt like burnt chocolate or it had maybe gone off! Put me off for a whole hour! Lol

Sense of smell sure does have a lot to do with how things taste or alters our cavings. Aren't you glad you had a stuffed up nose now?lol Enjoy your day and you did a great job with not eating them. Congats to you.:)

I am very glad I didn't devour the whole lot of them! Guess this stuffy nose was worth it's trouble afterall. Leanne...I think that patch thing would probably work. Years ago we took our kids to Hershey PA and went to the Hershey store there. What an unbelieveable smell when you first walk in. But within 15 minutes of being in there...I had a headache and felt nausea from the smell. I used to think how could people work at a place that smells sooooo good, but I think after that experience, you would get sick of it after a short time. Or just so used to it you don't smell it anymore.

Paula, the other thing I know people do is put your favourite dinner (take a way curry in my case) mash it to a liquid and put it in a glass in the cupboard! Take it out every day and sniff it for a week! Guaranteed that you will never eat it again! I have see this on diet shows on telly!

glad you're feeling a bit better and proud of you for not giving in to the chocolate. i hear making love to chocolate can be very messy! i use to say the only way i could lose weight was having a constant sinus infection - if i can't smell the food then i won't have an appetite. my son use to work at a chicken & biscuit place (best in town) and i asked how he can work there and not eat it, the smell is heavenly! he said after an hour the smell starts to make him feel sick and then within another hour he didn't even smell it anymore. the nose is an amazing feature :) have a great day - enjoy your book!

Paula, my first job was in a mom and pop, best in the world, donut shop....and you would think that I would get put off by the smell, but never did...of course the smells change...the smell of yeast dough rising, and then fying, and the smells of the glazes, fillings, and icings...I did stop wanting to eat them though. That part got tedious, but oh, the smells, heavenly, and I still love that smell to this day! lol Have a wonderful day and I sure hope that you continue to feel better!
