Yeah, here's a noise from the past. :)
While I have enjoyed keeping up with most of you via the email alerts, I have not been on here in quite some time. I have been struggling with health issues. First, the cellulitis, then Bells Palsy, and now I am just coming off of a 20-day horrible coughing adventure. My theory is that they loaded me up with so many antibiotics for my cellulitis, that it killed off my immune system. I immediately contracted the Bells Palsy (which paralyzed the left side of my face - though I still don't look like Sylvester Stallone), and I haven't fully recovered from that yet. They say recovery usually begins 2 weeks to 6 months after you contract it. I guess I was lucky because I began to recover after two weeks. Unfortunately, when I begin to recover from that, I contracted this horrible cough where I have been coughing up mucous for about 20 days, though thank God I am just about over it now. I am trying not to take any medications because, if it is true that antibiotics also kill your immune system, I have had about enough of that. I still can't close my left eye completely - unless I close the right one also (which means I can't wink - there goes my flirtatious lifestyle - and I can't blink). I still have a little paralysis in the left side of my mouth so I have to drink carefully. Other than that, the last 3 months have been a hoot. :)
So, it's not that I don't love you guys, it's just that dieting hasn't been my top priority. I have never been down for the count for so long ever. I'm getting back into the game, but it's tough.
I plowed snow all day Sunday for neighbors and my alley. It was and is bitterly cold here. I think they said wind chills 30 below zero. Well, I don't want to write a novel here; just wanted to let everyone know that I am still living, have all my body parts, and am about 10 pounds heavier, in spite of my happenstances. Wouldn't you know it, even when you're sick, you still manage to gain weight. Go figure. Toodles!

Sorry you 've had such a rough time. Yogurt will help bring your immune system back after antibiotics.

Never thought about the yogurt; thanks! BTW, I'm in to making wholesome dog treats as well.

DEFINATELY yoghurt... I make my own - easiyo yoghurt... Really easy to make.... Just stick it in the easiyo container with cold water, fill up the easiyo thermos with hot water, stick the container in it and leave for 8 hours... Hey presto done. (I make mine in the evening, so it's ready the next morning). The benefit of making your own is, it is fresher than shop bought and has more live culture in it (they die the longer they are kept - so by the time commercial ones are made, transported, kept in the shop - a chunk of the live culture has already gone). Glad your back and on the mend x

I have a yogurt maker that I've probably had since the 70's. It keeps the proper temp and works great with canning type jelly jars. I really need to get some new jars and get that going again. When my kids were home I made it in a casserole dish in my oven with a pilot light. So much better than store bought. You can get starter at a health food store or use a good organic plain yogurt as a starter.

Hi DK! Glad to see you on here, though I'm sorry you've been having a rough go of it lately. Feel better!

Hey DK. I knew something had to be seriously wrong for you to have disappeared. You have been missed. Listen to all the FS good advice and get yourself a yogurt maker or get the stuff Bren is telling you about. Also, get in that vitamin C, etc. I had not heard of the Bells Palsy before and that had to scare you, especially after the cellulitus. Glad you are on the mend. You look way better than ol' Sylvester. Have you practiced saying, "Yo, Adrien?" though? Love ya, buddy. Just get yourself well.

It seems that you got all your bad luck at once. I'm glad that you're on the mend.

Well welcome back! Good to hear from you, but I'm sorry its not with better news. I hope your health keeps improving. And ditto what Erika says - your humor and wit is always needed regardless of how 'on track' you are! Heck, I almost never post about diet/exercise anymore ;)
